Today we’d like to introduce you to Sierra Georgitsis
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a recipe developer, food blogger, photographer, videographer and digital content creator. I’m Greek and mainly focus on Mediterranean cuisine but with lots of inspiration from the seasons and current trends as well. I create and share original recipes in blog, photo, and video format across all social media platforms. I also have a website in which I post longer form recipe blog posts and showcase my food photography.
I focus on value-added content for my audience, meaning I curate content that is relevant to the season, trends and their needs. I believe my high-quality, easy to follow recipe videos are valuable to every home cook.
I treated this venture as a business from the start and invested in tools right away such as courses on photography, keyword research and website development. I also invested in high quality lighting equipment, kitchenware, and photography/videography equipment.
I launched a website at the very beginning which has become a hub for my audience to go to for all of my recipes with detailed instructions, photos and printable recipe cards. I plan to self-publish a cookbook next year which will also add a lot of value to my audience and enable them to have my recipes in a tangible way.
On the business side of things, I use my website to run Ads, I earn through social media creator programs, as well as the Amazon affiliate program and I work with brands to promote products through video campaigns posted to my social media platforms.
All of this has been a gradual progression, self-taught and not at all easy. I’ve learned a lot of valuable lessons along the way. I’ve faced challenges like tech issues with my website, learning how to contract with brands and protect myself, as well as learning to ignore negative comments on social media. But because I’m truly so passionate about the content I’m creating, I wake up every day with purpose and a drive to keep going.
Being a food blogger and content creator has provided me with so much self assurance and passion for my life and future. I would encourage anyone on the fence about pursuing a passion to just take the first step and do it. You will never regret betting on yourself.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
An obstacle I’ve had to overcome as a content creator is being comfortable in front of the camera. Since I started food blogging, my focus has always been the food and the quality of the content. But as things evolved and social media became a main player in my day to day, I realized that I needed to incorporate more of myself within the content.
This was not something I had envisioned when starting out because I didn’t have a desire to be front facing or a public figure. I just wanted to focus on the recipes. However, I started to understand that my authentic Greek recipes told a story and that I was a big part of the whole picture.
It was definitely outside my comfort zone to start being in front of the camera and opening myself up to the entire internet. But ever since I started incorporating more of myself, my personality and my voice I’ve become more self-assured and confident in doing so.
It’s still a pretty challenging and vulnerable thing to do but I’ve become a lot more comfortable sharing more of myself with my audience. I’m proud of myself for stepping outside my comfort zone and for having faith in myself. I think this has really added to my overall brand and connection with my audience.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in everyday recipes that are inspired by the seasons, trends and my Greek background. I focus on easy-to-follow step-by-step recipe videos that are high quality and enjoyable to watch.
I’m super proud of how far I’ve come in terms of the quality of my work. I feel that I can attribute my growing following and audience to the quality and consistency of my content. I’ve invested so much into every aspect of my work, from equipment to courses to improving my editing and photography skills.
I create things that I’m immensely proud of and receive tons of positive feedback which keeps me motivated. It’s a journey of continuous improvement and the landscape changes constantly in terms of what’s popular or what working / not working in the space which keeps me very invigorated in my work.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was very involved in sports and socializing. I was naturally a leader and loved to organize things from school projects to social events. I was a good student and motivated to always do more. I was a very booked and busy kid. My mom was constantly driving me around to a variety of sporting events, summer camps and play dates.
But something that has always been constant is my love for cooking. I would always offer to help my aunts and grandmas in the kitchen at holidays and family gatherings. At home I was constantly wanting to bake (not a huge baker now though). I actually had a business plan in one of my old notebooks for a bakery when I was older called “Vanilla”. It makes me happy thinking back on little me and knowing that my passion for cooking and culinary arts has always been prominent in my life.
