Life & Work with Squeaky Buddha

Today we’d like to introduce you to Squeaky Buddha.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We’re four best friends from Nashville, and we’ve been playing music together since we were kids. We started our band in New Zealand as a two piece. After New Zealand, we moved to San Diego then became a three piece band, after San Diego we traveled up the west coast and officially became a four piece band in Portland! We lived in our cars, then ugraded to an rv we named “Minerva”, and lived in campgrounds, parking lots, and National Parks. Since recently moving into San Diego, we have been putting on our own shows at fiesta island, Oceanside breweries, and various house shows. We are currently set to release our new album early this year.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Yes, it has been a crazy ride so far. We held down full-time jobs while living in our cars, but there were a lot of hiccups along the way!

– Waking up to cops/security kicking us out of parking lots.

– Having to live without running water or electricity.

– Sleeping in our cars every night.

– Practicing in public while harnessing power from car batteries.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Our deep friendship really is the basis of our band. Since we’ve been friends for so long, that bond holds everything together. Individually, we all have a unique sound to our playing, all of which makes the whole band tighter. On the artistic side of things, our bass player Wesly designs almost all of our album art and multimedia, and within the group everyone is always free to bring anything to the table.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
We all had different personalities, but that’s what makes us super close! Every one of us expressed interest in music from an early age and bonded over time through music.
