Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Cindy Erdody.
Hi Vanessa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Let’s start with where I grew up, I am from Budapest Hungary. When I was 21 years old, I didn’t really know what to do with my life, so I was eager to experience any new opportunity that interested me. I applied to work at surf cafes in Portugal and Snowboard lodges in Austria, I was open for anything and to go anywhere. Eventually, I found a Facebook ad to come to California and study abroad, so I decided to make the move. Moving out here inspired me to see the world a little bit differently, so not long after, I purchased my first camera. I never went to school to study anything about Photography; it was all a new experience for me. Hungary is a landlocked country, so I did not grow up around surfers and ocean sunsets every night. So, when I moved to San Diego, I started shooting surfers, sunsets, and silhouettes of life by the beach. 2020 happened, and I had just given birth to my son that year, so I shifted my focus to capturing the beauty of motherhood and femininity. Eventually, the world slowly started opening back up, so I was able to go back to Budapest to visit home. On one of my trips home, I reached out to a friend who manages musicians, and I was able to photograph my first concert. That experience really gave me an indescribable feeling, and I knew I wanted to continue capturing other artists in their element. Here we are in 2024, and I can comfortably say I’ve photographed so many beautiful moments. I could not be more appreciative of the whole journey that I have been through thus far or more excited for what the future holds.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been the smoothest road for me. The struggle that comes with the transition of moving to a completely new continent without knowing anyone was difficult. That move came with the sacrifice of leaving my family, friends, and comfort behind. Professionally, it’s been an up-and-down journey as well. I have learned so much since those early days of picking up my camera in terms of technique. Now, I am more focused on the business side of things, which is overwhelming, but in a good way. Staying committed to the process and having continuous conversions with other people in the creative community really helps me stay motivated.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am currently focusing on expanding my professional network to complement the many areas of creativity in San Diego that interest and excite me. Since I have traveled to so many places, the experiences I’ve had make it easy to connect with a variety of people from all walks of life. I love being a part of the journey of the clients I already have. It’s a beautiful thing to watch people grow and progress and be able to capture that along the way. Regardless of working together, I treat all of my subjects as friends and find a way to make them comfortable enough to show me their most authentic self. Which helps us to nurture a continuous professional partnership moving forward.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I am eager and open to working with new clients this year! My focus has shifted to just accumulating experiences that continue to inspire me and push me creatively. I feel that as long as I’m working with people who inspire me, I will continue to grow and learn as an artist. I just want to continue to witness and capture the flourishing community here in San Diego.
