Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Moreno
Hi Veronica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
From the first time I visited San Diego I knew this is where I was meant to be. I moved here from Texas in 2004 just as I turned 26 years old and having no clue about San Diego prices! Since then I have lived all over this county, from National City to the beaches in La Jolla, CA
In 2008 I went from working in a salon to becoming my own business. I was working steady in Mission Valley until covid pushed me to move closer to home. When the world opened up again, my partner and I opened our current location in the heart of Hillcrest.
Through the years I’ve collected a wonderful clientele. People who have become my chosen family. It is such an honor to share this life with these amazing people, clients and colleagues alike.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t believe in a smooth road as an entrepreneur but there’s definitely a road! I choose to navigate it with joy and optimism, even through the tears. Even when your career is stable, life mat not be or vise versa. Asking what is the lesson here and searching for answers is what keeps me creative in problem solving and marketing.
I have been very fortunate that some of the first clients I met in San Diego have stayed with me all this time, following and supporting me. Not every client is a love match, but when you find them it’s magic. Over the span of years both of you will change, grow and together see styles come and go. My absolute favorite thing is seeing my “Kid Cuts” grow up through their teen years and then adults! What a beautiful experience it is!
Being able to connect deeply and communicate openly is critical to a long lasting clientele.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What sets me apart is having worked in so many different avenues when it comes to hair. Some people thrive behind the chair and I do love it, but I moved here because I wanted to do photo shoots and print work. I had the pleasure of working as a trainer for other hairstylists and hair salons. I was head colorist in a hair show in Houston, Tx with the late Angus Mitchell. Rest In Peace my friend. I’ve always had the incredible privilege of doing makeup for a loved one when they passed. Hairstylists and Makeup Artist are in such a beautiful position and we are connecting with people in all aspects. Happy wedding times, prom nights, picture days and date nights.
I specialize in natural beauty makeup and hairstyling. It’s fun to play in the bright and dramatic, but I always look to enhance what comes naturally. When I’m feeling the urge to be creative, I gather my friends and do a spontaneous photo shoot or short film.
My work has been featured in magazines, editorial, commercials, film, and runway.
What I’m most proud of is the people I have encouraged in to going to beauty school! It’s just that I find so much value in it, and for someone who isn’t sure what they want to do, it can truly be a life changing experience. It is a skill that cannot be taken away. It can give a parent a way to save on their families’ haircuts, open up a chain of salons, start a hair care product line, do hair for red carpet events or simply be an expert at your own hair.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
People want to feel seen and heard. This is what we do at Geofox Studio!
We like to ask a question of the day in our shop. One that stands out is asking “what words do you need to hear?” Surprisingly, many peoples’ response was “ You are enough” and “Everything is going to be ok.” When guests sit in our chair, we strive to make sure that they get the best experience possible, and one that sends them out into the world with that affirmation.
