Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Rose.
Hi Victoria, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I had been planning events for years before I decided to jump into the world of wedding planning. Starting in high school, I was on the executive board for planning school activities and dances. I ended up pursuing a research path focusing on clinical neuropsychology and loved it. I have my BA is Psych and was ready to go to grad school for my Ph.D. when I abruptly decided I wanted more in life in terms work flexibility and being able to be my own person instead of a cog in the wheels of corporate America.
I started my business on a whim, and it’s been growing ever since. Putting myself out there and jumping all in is what helped the most.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning a business in general is a major struggle. You don’t have a solid paycheck, guaranteed hours, benefits, etc. BUT that’s the beauty of it. You control your own story.
Owning a business right now is so scary. First, it was the pandemic and now it’s the economy and inflation. There are also personal changes that impact business. This past year, I had some of the biggest weddings of my career in terms of venue quality and budgets. At the same time, I found out we were expecting our first little babe and his due date would be smack dab in the middle of those dates. It’s so important to have a solid team and community behind you to help during all those different life changes.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a certified master wedding planner and designer and now am branching into venue management. I pride myself in being extremely organized, detail-oriented, and having strong communication skills. Being a wedding planner means dealing with so many different personalities between fellow vendors, couples, their families, and wedding guests. I like to think my background in psychology and my ability to understand different personality strengths and weaknesses is what has helped with our success thus far.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I used to say that our industry was one of the most secure ones because people always are going to be getting married. Then, the pandemic hit. I am not sure what the next 5-10 years holds simply because the entire world is unstable, and I think that impacts many industries.
My hope is that we can continue to be creative and evolve with the changes of the world. During the pandemic, we had to get creative in order to still have work. We will have to continue and evolve with economic and technological changes.
