Hi Viktoriia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi, my name is Viktoriia, me and my family (my husband, two kids and small dog) we moved in USA in 2023 from Kyiv, Ukraine. In my country I owned a beauty studio where I worked for many years, building strong relationships with my clients and doing what I loved every day. Unfortunately, due to the war, I had to close everything and leave my home behind. It was a very difficult moment — losing not just my business, but also the community I had built around it.
When I came to the U.S., I knew I still wanted to do the work I’m passionate about — bringing beauty and joy to people through makeup, hairstyling, and brow design. I took the time to understand the rules and licensing requirements here, got certified, and began working with new clients here. Now, I specialize in wedding and event makeup, hairstyling, and brow services, and I’m grateful every day to be doing what I love again in San Diego.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Moving to a new country and starting over was a big challenge. One of the first struggles was obtaining my professional license — the process took time, and the waiting period felt long and uncertain. Then came the challenge of finding a suitable studio space and attracting my first clients in a place where no one knew me.
In many ways, it felt like starting from zero. But thanks to my years of experience and deep understanding of the beauty industry, I was able to stay focused and motivated. Each step has taken effort, but it’s also been very rewarding to see my work appreciated here.”
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a licensed makeup artist and brow specialist. I focus on bridal and event makeup, hairstyles by hot tools (like updos, curls) and eyebrow services. What I’m especially known for is my ability to enhance natural beauty — I pay close attention to facial features, symmetry, and skin tone to create customized looks that feel beautiful.
Clients often tell me that they feel truly seen and cared for — I take time to listen, understand their vision, and make them feel confident and beautiful.
I’m most proud of the trust I’ve earned from my clients, both in Ukraine and here in the U.S. Despite starting over, I’ve been able to rebuild my reputation through consistent quality, warmth, and professionalism.
What sets me apart is the combination of technical skill, artistic intuition, and a deep love for connecting with people. For me, it’s not just about makeup — it’s about creating moments of joy and confidence
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of my husband. His constant support, help, and belief in me gave me the strength to keep going, especially during the most difficult and uncertain times.
