Today we’d like to introduce you to Viorel and Carrie Badescu
Hi Viorel and Carrie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our passion for tasty food drew us to develop our own bread recipes for our family first, and it grew into something we wanted to share with our community of Ramona, the local wineries (Vineyard Grant James, Ramona Ranch Winery, Pamo Valley Winery, etc), and the local grocery store, Ramona Family Naturals. After the reception was so good, we decided to walk the bread into Jimbos Naturally one day and the owner Jimbo (and his buyers, Mo and Bryan) loved the bread. We set a meeting and a few months later we were selling a small amount at Jimbos Naturally as well! As we delivered our bread 3x/week, we continued to share samples with more farmstands and grocery stores along the route and slowly but surely we began selling at more stores. It has been a fun, exhilarating, challenging journey to say the least. We have grown from a small family operation in the beginning (think a few home countertop mixers) to adding community members to our team and moving into a commercial space on Main Street with commercial equipment! We continue to keep quality up, stay humble, look for the good in each situation/mistake, and we hope to continue serving great food to Ramona and the greater San Diego area for years to come. We feel that good food, community, & connection are some of life’s greatest things to enjoy!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Obstacles include growing a business out of the home into the commercial world while raising 3 kids. Bread making is always keeping us on our toes, with changes in the environment always keeping us re-thinking how to make the dough that day. The search for the perfect loaf is always on our minds. With a small team, there were many days we had to push through to make the deliveries and satisfy the growing customer base.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are known for our great tasting sourdough bread and the benefits it provides through longer fermentation and the natural leavening. We are known to have great tasting items at our storefront on Main street in Ramona. Customers enjoy our pizzas, quiches, soups, coffee, bread, and pastries. We strive for great customer service and a community-centered approach.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was always interested in other cultures, travel, singing, exploring, and baking.
