Life & Work with Zachary York

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zachary York.

Hi Zachary, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I am 35, born and raised in San Diego in a family of artists. I have a degree from the University of Arizona in Creative Writing with a minor in Italian. I have traveled all over the world, including working as an English as a Foreign Language Teacher in rural Thailand. When it comes down to it, I like helping people to find success.

I carry the Neurofibromatosis 1 gene and have had some major complications including two brain and one spinal tumor. I walk with crutches to correct for balance and have numerous other complications. Doesn’t stop me from living my life to the fullest, though!

Fast-forward to today: I have found the intersection between helping artists market their craft, my technical know-how, and my ability to build creative design solutions.

I started Smartworks for Artists with my mom (a working artist and teacher) to use *my abilities* to facilitate my ultimate goal; using my passion for the arts, instruction, and design to build a way where I can do what I love from any location.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Getting traction within the art world (still working at that) and overcoming my various health and physical challenges. I’m always learning a new way of looking at things- I’m not afraid of storms, Louisa May Alcott wrote, for I’m learning how to sail my ship.

I’m here to make a difference.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am known for facing problems with empathy and facilitating holistic solutions. My fascination with language/instruction, visual design, and technology have met and combined into a service to build marketing solutions for artists.

I am most proud of using my overcoming my setbacks and using my strengths to help others find success in marketing their work.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Please visit https://www.smartworksforartists.com/ for more details including pricing.

I think that about covers it. Thank you!
