Life & Work with Zina Isteepho of Rancho Penasquitos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zina Isteepho.

Hi Zina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m an Iraqi girl that came to us when I was 15. (1998) During my high school years I always wanted to become a businesswoman, stylist/makeup artist also, and entrepreneur. I didn’t have the means to get started that was a faraway dream that I didn’t think will ever be reality. but when I got married (2003), my husband supported my dream and believed in my ambitions and passion for art and put me through school. (2008/2009) I finished beautiful school and got my license and started my carrier. My goal was to grow my business and today I can say That I’m proud of who I am and what I have learned and how far I have come to set an example for my daughters and all women with dreams and passions.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is definitely not a smooth ride! One thing I learned is that there are no failures there are lessons to do better next time. When the pandemic hit, I didn’t know what was next. My thoughts were all over the place but I knew one thing our lockdown was temporary. I didn’t sit around Of course I reached out to my clientele I went to their homes to keep them feeling fresh. Took my free time to create a media network. Created a website and put me and my work out there. I didn’t waste any time waiting for things to open back up I worked as much as I could. Whoever reached out and needed a haircut or color did it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a hair colorist, hair stylist, and makeup artist, I’m the do it girl. That’s what sets me apart from others is that I do it all and I master all of it pretty well 🙂 I have done it all worked behind the camera done special effects makeup. I can correct color I’m a balayage artist doing wedding hair and makeup.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Investing in your work never goes unrecognized. Put yourself out there and never take any opportunity for granted big or small. Find the best education possible and always be in the know.
