Lilli Fish & Savannah Duren’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lilli Fish & Savannah Duren. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Lilli & Savannah , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
People often think interior designers come in and create these picture-perfect, untouchable spaces like a showroom you’re not allowed to sit in. Don’t get us wrong, we priotize a beautiful space, however our main goal is to design for real life: sticky fingers, muddy paws, red wine spills and all. That means performance fabrics, kid-proof materials, and layouts that actually work for how our clients live day to day. We like to say that we design homes that are just as functional as they are beautiful!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We are Lilli and Savannah of LS Design Studio! We’re an interior design firm that specializes in full home remodels and furnishings, ground-up new builds, and kitchen and bath renovations. Something that makes our firm unique is that we collaborate closely on every project- every space we design gets both of our brains, styles, and perspectives, which makes for a really thoughtful and layered end result. While we each have our own personal tastes, we don’t design just one “look” – we’re all about creating homes that reflect our clients and the way they want to live.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Honestly… exactly who we are now! We were both the kids that were sketching floor plans in the margins of our notebooks, rearranging our bedrooms for fun, and dreaming up homes before we even knew what “interior design” really meant. Along the way, we were sometimes faced with the opposing idea of needing to pick a “more realistic” career, but we always came back to this. Designing is who we’ve always been.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Just keep following that creative spark! The doodling, the rearranging, the obsession with redecorating and dreaming about homes- these little passions will turn into something real one day.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
Each other’s, 100%. We bounce everything back and forth- from big-picture layout plans to problem solving on customer service challenges. Having two sets of eyes (and brains) on every project makes the work stronger, and it also keeps things fun. We challenge each other in the best way and for every challenge we face, we come together with both of our ideas.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Not every day is a tap dancing day in our industry, but on install days or when we’re photographing a finished project, we’re both dancing for sure! Being physically inside a space we’ve poured our hearts into, seeing all the pieces come together- there’s a real high to that. It’s this mix of pride, relief, and joy that reminds us exactly why we do what we do.
