Meet Abbie Naber

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbie Naber.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Art and design have been in my blood since I was a little girl and dreamt of being a fashion designer. I graduated with a Fine Arts Degree from the University of Washington and then attended Fashion School at FIDM in Los Angeles studying Fashion Design and earned my professional designation degree. I’ve always had a love for textiles, fabrics, and all things design. After having my daughter in 2016, I changed career paths and decided that I was going to pursue my longtime passion for interior design. I wanted the flexibility of being able to work from home while maintaining an outlet for my creativity. After completely renovating my own home in 2015, I decided to take make the jump into interior design and styling. I haven’t looked back since!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, but I love learning every day and enjoy the challenges that each unique job brings to the table. Truly, no two jobs are alike!

There have been many challenges, but I love being able to work from home and work when my daughter is napping or asleep for the night. That way, I don’t feel like I’m missing out on the important parts of her first years. Growing a business has been hard, frustrating, and tiring, but there’s growth when we push ourselves into an uncomfortable place. It’s so much easier to stay stagnant in what you are doing, but where’s the growth in that?

For my business, in particular, the major challenges have been trying to find more time to work (when I can’t always do that) and learning to say no to jobs or clients that may not be ideal for me and what I envision for my brand/ business. At first, I would say yes to absolutely everything, but I’m finding more and more lately, that it’s not worth it if the match isn’t right.

a. Naber Design – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
a. Naber Design is a San Diego based interior design and interior styling firm. I’m a self-professed “Style-Mutt”, incorporating Scandinavian, Mid-Century, Modern, Eclectic, Bohemian, and Global influences into my designs. I play heavy on texture and love layering neutrals. I’m also not afraid of pattern and color. What sets me apart is that I am able to blend a variety of styles to create a space that is unique, fresh, and approachable.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
In my opinion, success is a combination of self-growth and client satisfaction. As a designer, I ultimately am providing a service to my client. Therefore, I want the client to be happy (well, more than happy) when I finish. Going hand in hand with that is me finishing a project having grown creatively as a designer. Success is much more valuable to me when I’ve pushed myself to grow in the process.
