Today we’d like to introduce you to Ace Blizzy.
Hi Ace, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well, I started doing band in elementary school and middle school, and I really liked music and poetry at that point. So by the time I got to High School, I had moved to the Philadelphia area, and that’s where I grew closer to music since I didn’t have many other things around me that I was familiar with.
Ultimately, I got this little music “studio” set up for Christmas and that’s when the magic started. I went through all of high school pushing my music till I graduated and took it to the next level when I moved to New York. I was in Brooklyn for about 3 years and I went to every open mic, performance, or art show that I could get my hands on and get my name in the networking circles.
Fast forward time to the pandemic, it really shifted my perspective and how I wanted to get my music out to the people and what opportunities I needed. So I decided to move back west and now I currently reside in LA with my best friend whose also a part of a group we made together and now we are looking to take over Cali!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I believe this road has been a blessing, but it has been no easy test. From learning to record myself, to learning how to mix my own voice and master my own tracks and even producing my own beats before I even got the chance to step into any real studios. And even aside from the hands on work, when I was in the process of moving to New York to elevate my artistry, my grandma had passed away and she was like my best friend so that broke me for a while. But the good thing is a lot of motivation comes these moments. My homie in my group was from Philly and there was a lot of death and chaos that we kept hearing about in the city that only gave us more reason to come back to my home state of California to market ourselves in a different area.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer/songwriter/rapper. I specialize in making good music for the ears and the soul. I’ve been in music for all my life and started recording seriously at age 16. First thing I’m proud of, is not being another statistic to society as a young black man and also I’m proud of just being myself. I’m in an industry where there are a lot of fakers; a lot of people who say they are something they’re not. So individuality and authenticity well transcend past all the other bull shit and that’s what I stand on.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love about my city is obviously everything that you can’t find in many other states. Consistently good weather, several amazing beaches, some of the best food especially the best Mexican food, amazing weed, sheesh what else… the cookouts, the views I mean I could go on for forever about the things I love… But what I least like? I mean First thoughts are probably gas prices, parking, but I feel like those are issues you’ll find in many other places as well. But what I really think we could do better about is how we can effectively provide better sheltering for the homeless. Getting addicts the help and rehabilitation they need. There’s a lot of pretty about San Diego but a lot of people might not know the other side and some of the problems the city faces.
