Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Nienow.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Adam. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started making art when I was really young. I started drawing and painting around 10/11 years old. As I entered college, along with many other artists, I decided I needed to find a way to make money. So, I decided to “sell out” for graphic design. Giving up my pencil and paint brush for pixels. Little did I know, I would fall in love with making art digitally even more than I did with a pencil and paper. Fast-forward through art and design school as well as few jobs and you’ll find me where I am today. Working full time, and running NienowBrand on the side. NienowBrand is technically just my place to show my current client work, explore illustration, and create digital and physical products. It’s my pride and joy.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The industry is tough for sure. It’s difficult reading client expectations, keeping up with the newest trends—but also not selling yourself out for every new color palette or logo trend. And keeping up with the talent that is out there is a whole different story. But that’s what keeps me in the industry. I thrive on these challenges.
NienowBrand – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
NienowBrand is technically just my place to show my current client work, explore illustration, and create digital and physical products. I’ve been surfing for most of my life, so a lot of my work is influenced by beach culture. I also have a fascination with traditional tattoo and I think a lot of that comes out in my work. Part of the fun with NienowBrand is creating products for people to use and wear. In the past year I have put out fonts, patches, hats, stickers, and skateboards. I love getting to create things that people can use.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My main goals over the next few years are to continue to explore my illustration style while at the same time pushing the boundaries on the products I’m releasing. I want each new product I come out with to one-up the last one.
