Meet Adesola Akindele of HyGear Technologies

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adesola Akindele.

Hi Adesola, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In 2019, three women sat down at thanksgiving and wanted to solve one global issue, we chose hygiene. In the process of working on our first patent, the Covid-19 pandemic hit and we realized we could work alongside public, private and non-profit organizations to help keep spaces and surfaces clean. Our patents are based on utilizing ultraviolet irradiation(UVC) lights to disinfect water, air and surfaces. The current pandemic has shed light on the fact that transmission is aerosolized and improving air quality would help minimize the risk of pathogen spread.

Beyond the pandemic, we have made educating, amplifying and accessing innovative hygiene tech possible. We believe this will help make an impact by closing the global hygiene gap which can be up to 70% in underdeveloped communities.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No founder can say their journey has been smooth especially with goals such as ours. Key struggles were finding and working with the right people. We have had a few hiccups but also amazing successes. Our advice will be to make sure you are clear about your mission and work with people who understand your vision. Another which many startups encounter is funding. However, once we got clear about our business model in our 2nd year, we realized we could stay lean, partner with manufacturers we connected with, outsource and stay self-funded. Because of the freedom we have, we are able to make decisions swiftly. We have been lucky in our journey so far to determine who we should work with as well as those who have opened doors for us. One of such has been the Regional Entrepreneurship Center at Miramar College led by Tanya Hertz. We need to support entities like these to strengthen San Diego’s startup ecosystem.

As you know, we’re big fans of HyGear Technologies. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
HyGear Technologies is a woman-owned and operated hygiene tech company. We provide access to innovative hygiene tech from Europe globally. We are your hygiene partners that provide A-Z solutions for keeping spaces safe. One thing that makes us stand out is our genuine concern for people and not just the bottom line. We know that without people, you will always have a volatile bottom line and any threat to community health will do just that. We also educate on not only choices but best practices with hygiene technologies some of which have been around for over 100years. We are most proud of our level of agility. We have had to pivot multiple times to fit the climate. This has led to strategic moves and additional revenue streams. Another proud achievement is our sponsor-a-teacher and sponsor-a-school campaign. This has helped us connect to schools that need hygiene tech with the support of the general public. We are now working on making this a permanent endeavour as our social responsibility initiative.

We offer 3 B-2-B solutions: a hospital-grade Hepa and UVC air purifier, a wearable UVC air purifier and a Hepa air purifier used in transport vehicles. If you are looking for a solution for your business, school, college, hospital that is low maintenance, hospital grade and ready to go, contact us. If you are confused about the best option for keeping your staff, customers and bottom-line secure, let’s have a chat. If you want to support your community but your budget does not allow it, reach out to us.

What matters most to you? Why?
Peace of mind and legacy is the bottom line for me. Opportunities to learn and grow as a person also matter to me. To know that I am living a life that serves others, honours my family and in the process making a positive difference in the world while sticking to my values is a life worth living. This is my legacy.
