Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Vargas.
Adriana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am from Tijuana Baja California, MX.
I was born in 1975, always active and feeling alive and exited through movement. I got my first exposure to fitness when my older sister who was always battling with her weight, got a gym membership and ask me to join her so that she would go alone. I was only 13 years old when I fall in love with fitness group classes. I spend all summer at the gym more than my sister haha. I got my first aerobics certification at the age of 14. I taught aerobics/fitness classes for years until I discovered Pilates 19 years ago. I fall in love of the movement and how safe and fun can be at the same time. I was going through a really hard time back then and Pilates Teacher Training was my escape.
At the beginning only teach part time but then 14 years ago I make a huge decision to make it my full time career. It was really hard because I was newly divorced and raising my two daughters on my own.
I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to do Pilates my full career. So many satisfying moments. I feel like Pilates is my superpower haha, through Pilates I have help people overcome pain and get back to their daily active lifestyle after working on recovering from injuries. I have had inspired multiple students to become instructors themselves. I love it so much that I became a Pilates Master trainer and create my own Pilates Teacher Training Program. I have taught so many now successful Pilates Instructors and business owners in SD.
Five years ago, I had the opportunity to open my own studio in La Jolla. It was like it was meant to be. I have my eyes in that retail space for years. Where my studio is located used to be a Pilates studio too so I remember walking by and always dreamed of owning my pilates studio in there. Well, it happened and I am so happy I took that big leap of faith. It’s been about five years and I still feel like it was yesterday. Thanks to my Pilates Knowledge and my business I have being able to help other people feel healthier, happy, successful and again some of them even pursue a Pilates career. It’s also through my business that I had the opportunity to provide for of my family and I can proudly say I was able to send my older daughter to College, she just graduated last summer.
I spend most of my days at the studio with my clients and I don’t ever feel like I am at work. I feel like I am helping friends become stronger and reach their goals. That’s so satisfying to me and push me to keep myself always growing and helping more people.
Has it been a smooth road?
Well as anything else in life there is always gonna be obstacles or I will prefer to call it challenges. But on all honesty, I have a very positive and persistent personality so I just keep pushing forward and learn from them.
So at the end, when the challenge is overcome the satisfaction feels better.
I guess I am in a very competitive field and also I open my studio in La Jolla with already so many established studios so building clients it’s been a slow process but once they try me they don’t want to go anywhere else.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The feedback I get all the time is how much attention to detail I have. How much I care about my clients form, alignment, safety, enjoyment Etc. How I keep my classes fun, challenging and always different, Specially in a group class setting. Apparently, that’s something that clients don’t experience in other places.
What sets me apart from others I would say is that I genuinely love helping others and I show that through my Pilates knowledge. I specialize on clients with injuries or conditions. So I make it my mission to help every single client that come to me reach that goal, whatever it is, from getting fit and strong, to overcome pain and build good alignment, good posture and take their Pilates practice as the foundation of any other movement they do on a daily basis. So my clients goals achievements are my goal and we make it happen, so that’s what set me apart from others.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think San Diego is a beautiful place to have a business. There is so many areas where there is no Pilates available. So I think it will be great to study that first before opening any kind of business.
See where is a need for your service and open there.
