Thanks for sharing your story with us Aidin. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
Two and a half years ago I was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism. Having been a smoker off and on for over ten years finally had caught up to me. The blood clots in my lungs passed through on two different days, both days leaving me in the hospital… the second time for about a week.
I knew it was time to clean up my act and get in shape after that horrific and painful experience. I grew up in a family that has been in the apparel industry for over 30 years. Fashion is in my blood, so I knew I wanted to turn my reflections of starting an activewear brand to life; But not just any activewear brand, a sustainable one.
Today, we are on the verge of releasing our first collection of men’s tops composed of 78% recycled materials. Our performance tops rival those on the market, even better are made in sunny San Diego.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not one bit. I’m going to be transparent with you and say we did not buy wholesale from China and just slap our logo on our tops. We designed them.
After the design, you make the pattern. Then you make a sample. Problem one—Sample sucks and doesn’t fit right. You do this process over until you get a good fitting sample.
OH… Fabric… We order the fabric for the sample… Then we were ready to place the bulk order, they were out.
In this business, unless you are a MAJOR fashion house or big brand… you are constantly waiting on others so you can move forward.
