Today we’d like to introduce you to Aija Mattera.
Aija, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always loved hosting parties and making pretty and delicious displays of food! Sometime in 2018 I noticed the beautiful trend of charcuterie and food boards on social media and started making my own when I was asked to bring something to parties. When people asked where I ordered them from, my idea for Boards In Bloom was born! It’s something I was able to fit into my already busy schedule of being a mom to three young daughters. So I got the word out that I’m accepting orders.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Social media and web presence are a very crucial part of a successful food business today and it also happens to be my least favorite part. I could make boards until my arms fall off, but I’m a master procrastinator when it comes to doing proper web and social media marketing!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Boards In Bloom; Food that’s almost too pretty to eat – that’s a comment I get often when people first see my creations (I added “almost”). I create custom food boards and grazing tables – everything from crudites and charcuterie to fruits and desserts! I use organic fruits and veggies, uncured meats and high quality cheeses, I keep sourcing more and more ingredients from local farms and businesses – it’s food that is not only pleasant to look at but good for you!
What were you like growing up?
I grew up in a small country that most have probably never heard of – Latvia! I was very much a free-range kid from early on. With summers being very short, I spent every possible minute outside: riding bikes, climbing trees and swimming in rivers. And Winters were long and cold. I was enrolled in many activities. I loved singing and theater – being on stage was my favorite part! I’ve always liked to stay busy and make the best out of any situation.
