Meet Albert Maravilla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Albert Maravilla.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I bought my first camera December of 2016. I always liked going to cool and unique places and I thought to myself, why don’t I take pictures of the places I go to? January of 2017, a good friend of mine invited me to shoot with him at old town with some models he invited as well. I ended up falling in love with the art and dynamic of portrait photography that day. Because of photography I’ve been to places I wouldn’t have been to otherwise and got to meet and work with some amazing people as well. I can honestly say photography has changed my life.

Please tell us about your art.
I mainly do portrait photography. I enjoy the dynamics of working with a model, location, and camera. There’s a technical side to photography like getting the proper exposure, focusing your camera, and post processing. Then there’s the creative side such as posing your model, using props and concepts as well as beautiful locations. I love how it all comes together to create art. Art that makes people feel great about themselves. Art that’s visually and emotionally stimulating. Art that people can relate to.

What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
I believe the artistic community in San Diego is phenomenal. It is now easier than ever to share your work with others and people who appreciate it. A great idea would be for San Diego to host events where local creatives and artists can share their work in a public place so that other people can enjoy the art in person as well as meet the artists and creatives themselves.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
