Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Franklin.
Alex, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started welding in high school & I’ve always had an eye & passion for both design & furniture. I started my company Lark Design in 2013 after working for a number of other design companies including Basile Studio.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The beginning was a struggle, I started by making custom furniture and selling at swap meets & doing consignment. It wasn’t until later on one of my tables & light fixtures were noticed by Dennis owner of Thorn Street, who was building his first restaurant that things started to take off in my favor. After building my first bar & restaurant Home & Away in Old Town that’s when my clientele started to evolve.
Tell us more about your company.
My company Lark Design – builds bars & restaurants however what sets us apart is that we don’t just show up & take measurements & deliver. It is about how it’s a work of art. Each piece we make not only represents us but our client as well and it’s an entire art project that we put a lot of thought & time into.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Plans for us are to hopefully take all the knowledge I’ve learned over the years and to hopefully start designing my shipment container modular living space. Something that’s been in the works the last couple of years.
