Meet Alex Lievanos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Lievanos.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alex. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in San Diego, California. I started playing the piano when I was three years old on my grandma’s keyboard. Ever since then I’ve been obsessed with music. I was always trying to figure out how to play popular songs.

I remember listening to Maroon 5 on my mom’s stereo and running back to my keyboard trying to play them. I then transitioned to playing the guitar when I was eight. I didn’t exactly like it at first, but it became fun in a couple of months. Around high school, I started to take songwriting seriously and recorded songs on my own.

I released them around my senior year. After performing one of my songs at my high school’s talent show, I realized that having a music career was what I wanted to do in life. Ever since then, I’ve been getting many gigs at SOMA, Lestat’s West and House of Blues.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. I’ve had a couple of big shows get canceled after heavily promoting them. It was always a pain. I’ve also dealt with a bunch of shady people in the music industry that take advantage of artists, and I disliked dealing with them. I think the biggest challenge I faced was auditioning for Berklee College of Music.

I practiced my piece as much as I could and had some of my friends that I’ve made in their summer program give me tips on how to improve. A few months go by, and I ended up getting the rejection email. I remembered being so disappointed for not getting accepted into the one college I wanted to go to. However, it made me work harder than ever, and I learned to never give up no matter what obstacles you face.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I am a singer/songwriter from San Diego, California. I specialize in producing, recording, and performing music that consists of mostly indie pop with a side of surf rock.

I’m proud of the fact that I’ve made so many friends doing music that I have the privilege to work with them. I believe what sets me apart from other artists is that I’m not afraid to go in different directions with my music.

When I released my debut EP called Nights Like These, it had a surf rock sound. A few months later, I released a new single called “Ghosted” which had a more indie-pop sound with a dark theme. The genre was pretty different, and I felt that people enjoyed it more.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment in my career so far was getting to open for HUNNY at SOMA San Diego back in August 2017. They are one of my favorite bands for sure.

It was the first time playing with a full band as well. I always performed shows acoustically by myself. This was a much different experience, and it was so much fun!
