Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Moreno.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Born and raised in Sacramento, I decided after 18 years of living in the same place it was time to explore. So, I moved down to Southern California and attended the Art Institute of Orange County, where I later received my bachelor’s degree in marketing / advertising. Shortly after graduation I started working in the field as a graphic designer. 4 years later I’m now an art director who travels around the world to showcase their art. Even though I have accomplished a lot I still have a long way to go before I reach my ultimate goal of running my own business or agency.
Please tell us about your art.
In my work I try and create a sense of fun and whimsy. The world, especially now, is too serious and gloomy. I love creating art that makes people laugh, question reality, and if what they are looking at is even appropriate. A lot of people ask me what inspired me to create what I create and I tell them because I’ve never seen it. I paint, embroider, woodwork or digitally create what I feel. Art doesn’t always have to have a meaning behind it. Creating just to create is an amazing feeling.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
I don’t think the role of the artist has changed, but the importance of the artist. Worldly events affect everyone’s art in one way or another. For me, it keeps pushing me to create art that makes people smile and hopefully forget about all the horrible shit that’s happening and remember all the good that the world can offer.
