Meet Alex Nunez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Nunez.

Hi Alex, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I worked in the group fitness/HIIT industry for over six years from Orangetheory, Crossfit, and big box gyms. I saw many holes that most of these places were not filling and heard every complaint that you could think of, I saw people cancel their memberships and hitting plateaus not reaching goals and full of frustration.

So one day, I was teaching a class one day and we were doing some complicated movement that was way too advanced for the average person and I was trying to teach 24 members how to do this movement and more than half of them could not complete it and saw the frustration and they looked so defeated. It was like a light bulb that went off and I knew what I had to do and how to do it.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
During a pandemic, it was difficult to get our equipment and look for someone that could deliver by the time we secured our building. We went with Rouge Fitness as they are all American made and they were able to deliver all of our equipment with perfect timing.

We placed the order in January and it started to arrive in March just in time when we secured our building, everything ran smoothly and we began to build out the gym!

There was some worries with the lockdown and unsure if the gym would be able to open, but we found a building with a roll up door, tall ceilings and a lot of air circulation. We built the gym to be COVID proof designed every station to be more than 8 feet apart and spacing as if you had your own station.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a personal trainer and a certified nutritionist. I went to ASU and graduated with a BSN, fitness was not my first option I was a nurse for a few years before I started getting into training.

I’m known for being very thorough with my work, we run a team of bikini, figure, physique, and bodybuilders but also being thorough with our members and making sure their form is correct and nutrition is on point. I can’t stress enough to them that nutrition is the number one thing if you truly want to see more results in and outside of the gym.

The thing I’m most proud of is that I took a chance to open Ignite during this time, I have the most amazing support from my family at home who believes in me and what I am creating without her none of this would be possible. Yes, it’s one thing to believe in yourself but it’s much more fulfilling to know that others see what you are creating too.

What matters most to you?
The community that we are building for our Ignite nation, we’ve only been open for seven months and we have built something amazing with our members and have been involved in some great programs to help others in need. I think it is important that we help our community in need for those that are less fortunate than others and our gym has been so blessed and so kind to step up when the opportunity arrives to help.
