Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Piscatelli and Daisy Santana.
Alex and Daisy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Alex: I started this podcast because of a strong interest in media and all things podcasting. I wanted to have something fun to do on the side after graduating from San Diego State, and I realized the only thing I truly wanted to and could talk about for hours on end was anything pertaining to dating, relationships and sex. I was living in Los Angeles, away from my home in San Diego for the first time, and my podcast was the one thing that made me excited to wake up every day. When I moved back to San Diego, I realized I wanted to grow the podcast even more. I knew bringing in one of my best friends, Daisy, would take it to the next level.
Daisy and I are passionate about normalizing conversations surrounding dating, relationships and sex. We’ve had guests with all different stories and lifestyles, and discussed topics ranging from virginity to ghosting to polyamory.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We want to make sure we’re getting all different perspectives and stories on the podcast, which is where our guests come, but it’s also been a journey of making sure we’re putting ourselves out there in the dating scene, too. Unfortunately (depending on how you look at it ;)), I accidentally got a boyfriend along the way who is going to be in my life for a long, long time, so the pressure is on Daisy to go on dates, which is a new experience for her. We want everything in our lives to be open and honest, and we are so proud to have built something that people find they can relate to in some way.
Please tell us about your work.
Dating or at least trying is a podcast about dating, relationships and sex, and we strive to build a community where we’re normalizing conversations surrounding these topics.
Every time we get a new guest to open up about their story or have someone message us about their love life, or get tagged in an Instagram story about how much someone loves listening to us on our commute home, we feel so warm. The podcast is meant to not only entertain but to share different perspectives. Dating and love are something that every single person experiences in some capacity in their way. We strive to make create an environment where it’s okay to talk about it.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
To every guy who has ever ghosted me, to every bad date I’ve ever gone on, to the guy who told me he was a sociopath on the first date, to the guy who I thought had broke my heart, to the friends who listened to my dating antics, to all the good dates that just didn’t work out, and to the one who made me realize why it never worked out with anyone else: This is for you.
Dating or at least trying wouldn’t be the same without these horrible dating experiences, these amazing dating experiences, and everything in between.
