Meet Alexander Goodman of Shawshank Redeemed

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Goodman.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alexander. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well, we’ve been together as Shawshank for a little over six years now. But playing music with Kyle (drums) and Cooper (Bass) dates back to early middle school, back in the days of doing System of a Down covers and attempting to write our own originals. We all started really young, we’ve been playing music since we were kids; music has always been the biggest of passions in all of our lives.

We had spent years working hard in middle school, playing county fairs and talent shows and learning as much as we could. When we were around 14/15 in early high school, we met our singer Garrison through a church youth group and formed what is now Shawshank Redeemed. But at that point we were still very small and were focusing on writing actual material instead of having a repertoire of covers, still playing around at fairs and high school shows.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Luckily, we are a band that does not tolerate drama, but yes we have had our fair share of issues we’ve had to deal with. The only thing that’s more important than the band itself is the friendship, the brotherhood within the band. The bond that we share with each other makes it a lot easier to settle issues we may have.

Please tell us about Shawshank Redeemed.
Shawshank Redeemed is a heavy metal band from sunny San Diego, California. We take pride in being able to create perpetually heavy music while still bringing forth something that everybody can enjoy, not just metal heads. Our music is for fans of Meshuggah, The Acacia Strain, and Bring Me the Horizon.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Don’t be envious of the bands in your scene that are above you, instead, find what you can learn from them. You’ll be surprised how much you can actually obtain. Remember, they’ve already been down the road you’re just starting to go down.
