Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Ferber.
Alexandra, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Is started doing hair in Denver almost 20 years ago. I worked my way up from assisting in Cherry Creek into eventually teaching and doing hair for the Denver Nuggets Dancers. I took hiatus when I moved to San Diego 10 years ago, and while bartending and wedding planning, I realized I just wasn’t as happy as when I was doing hair.
I spent a year in a studio revamping my skills and getting back to speed in the new world of social media and ever-changing trends. After that, I moved to a large salon in Golden Hill to start my 2nd Gen hairdressing career.
I had never ever ever planned on owning a salon. In fact, I said I’d never do it.
Then, one day, my friend sent me an Instagram post about a small salon for sale on Adams Ave. I said to myself, “it wouldn’t hurt to go look”. And long story short, a few coats of paint and a few stylists later, I now own a small salon on Adams Ave. Crazy!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was actually smooth sailing. Since the day I came to look at the place, it seemed like the universe was doing everything in its power to shove me in this direction…
The remodel was tough because I planned it & did it all by myself (with the help of some very dear friends). Something I have never done before, so there are always those nagging “can I do this?” doubts in the back of your head.
It also took me a long time to find stylists, which meant I had to grind every day to keep the place floating on my own. But the perfect ones eventually came. And now, I have the start of the collective I dreamed of
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Blonde & Co.: Stylist Collective story. Tell us more about it.
We are a well rounded Collective of highly experienced stylists. We specialize in everything hair and also do a little bit of the in-between. We have Blonding and color specialists, curl specialists, extension experts, session stylists, and makeup artists.
I am the proudest of the energy in the salon. It is not the stuffy high-end spa, it’s a neighborhood nook where you come and relax, have a cup of tea, or a glass of wine, and leave with high-end hair.
Or vibe and caliber of stylists set us apart. Each stylist is her own businesswoman, hand-picked and has years of experience, but we all work together and make a great team.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I guess you could call it luck… I did the math and made smart decisions, but everything has just worked out. It was meant to be!!!!
