Meet Alexes Eide

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexes Eide.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I always loved photography but it wasn’t something that I believed I would be good at, and I certainly never imagined that I could make a full-time career out of it, so I chose to work in the law field. It wasn’t until I had my son that I realized that I was not passionate about working for attorneys, and I needed to find something that would allow me to stay home with my son but have the ability to still contribute financially. I took a leap of faith, purchased my first DSLR, and spent my late nights and early mornings nursing my newborn while researching how to shoot in manual and develop my own editing style. I started off with family sessions but quickly found my true joy, capturing weddings.

Please tell us about your art.
I am a full-time wedding photographer and I strive off preserving the in-between and authentic moments. Growing up, my grandpa always was taking photos and videos of our family at holidays, events and vacations. My family would get frustrated because it caused us to have to wait for dinner a few extra minutes, or to smile when we didn’t want to. I never minded because, even at a young age, I knew these moments were priceless. It wasn’t until my grandma passed away in 2006 that people started to appreciate what my grandpa did. Now, every year at Christmas, my grandpa puts together a slideshow of photos and videos from us growing up and we get to relive those memories with our beautiful grandma. I hope people take away that these photos are more than just a digital file or a piece of beautiful paper, but after we leave this earth, these photos are all we have left of our family and friends and they are irreplaceable.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Keep shooting, keep painting, keep singing, keep dancing, keep going. I know it’s hard to get out and focus on your passion, but if you keep working through it and work hard, it will get easier. When I started this crazy adventure, we were living with my in-laws with a newborn, we had to start all over when we moved back to California. We left good paying jobs and even stopped building a home but it was worth it and I would do it the same way 100 times over. When I start to get stressed out, I remind myself of one of my favorite quotes, “Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.”- John Lennon
