Ali, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The Whiskey House- founded in January 2015, has officially claimed The Guinness Book Of World Record as “The Bar with The Most Varieties Of Whiskey Commercially Available In The World.” With an official count of 2467 different labels of whiskey. Today, The Whiskey House has over 3,360 bottles and continues to grow monthly. The Whiskey House also has a substantial Absinthe, Gin, Tequila, Mescal, Amaro, Armagnac and Cognac collection, with over 5,000 different bottles available. The Whiskey House features award-winning American pub fare, which also receives love from locals, as demonstrated by a large number of regulars and industry professionals who frequent the bar. Private events—including local business and annual out-of-town conference attendees—have been particularly profitable for The Whiskey House.
Has it been a smooth road?
The Whiskey House was opened by Ryan King & Alex Minaev who have been part of the San Diego Hospitality Industry for many years. For the first two years, they tended bar and kept The Whiskey House growing by keeping costs low and utilizing The Convention Center Events, locals, and an amazing happy hour to drive sales. Over the last year, The Whiskey House has grown to a staff of 15 and quadrupled the number of whiskey bottles available.

The Whiskey House is well known for its Guinness Book of World Record achievements but takes most pride in its ability to retain love from local regulars and industry folk who frequent the bar daily. We walk a fine line of being an upscale lounge for date nights, conferences, dinners, and cocktail hours, while also providing a neighborhood bar feel for our guests. We can talk to you for hours about different whiskeys, or we can chat with you about life. We know most guests on a first name basis and strive for proper casual service to keep the guests relaxed and having fun. Our staff is small, but we’re all family and love when our guests feel like they are part of it.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
San Diego has proven to be a great location for The Whiskey House. Being a few blocks off of Gaslamp has provided us a location that creates a need to visit us as opposed to a place where you just stroll in off the street. The Convention center has also proven to be a very valuable asset, as it provides high sales for private events.
