So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a mother of two children and a wife in North County, San Diego, I live a fulfilling and happy life. But, when people ask about my passion, I always answer the same…I am an extremely creative person that enjoys bringing creative art and design into everything that I do.
I have had a passion for art and design my whole life. I graduated from Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise (FIDM) where I spent years learning design, composition and the use of space. After graduation, I worked in various fields of the design industry and went on to become a family photographer. I have used my creative calling to capture the beautiful moments of both children and their parents. It has been my personal privilege to watch the silly and innocent personalities of beautiful children all over San Diego County. Working with children has helped me become more patient and has allowed me to see multiple ways of accomplishing a beautiful outcome. And the perceived “right” way is not always the best way.
Since I became a mother, I have been organizing original birthday parties for my children. As my parties became more creative, I realized how much I loved coming up with new ideas and putting everything together. I also noticed there was a lack of original party options and observed that many parents just did not know where to begin when it was time to plan something special for their kid’s big day!. I began to dream of hosting colorful birthdays that would be different from the rest. One day I had an “AH-HAH” moment and thought how amazing it would be to put all my passions together and teach children all the crafts and projects I have learned over a lifetime. This is how Create Art, A Party for Kids began.
As a small business owner and party planner, I have been offering unique and colorful craft parties to families in San Diego. I knew I found my true calling and loved every moment working with all the amazing families and creative kids. Kids loved creating projects such as fairy gardens, dream catchers, painting canvases, clocks, painting pillows and was able to cater to any theme a kid could dream of.
When the pandemic hit, life changed drastically for everyone. Sadly, I was no longer able to host parties and run my business the same. I made a decision to transition my business model hoping to help parents make their life easier by sourcing the best materials and taking the stress out of what to do for your child’s next party. We created projects that can empower kids to create and explore with hands-on activities. Rather than preparing to throw parties, I started creating craft boxes for kids to complete at home and party boxes that are able to be used as a social distance activities.. Through trial and error and many hours of research, I have made each project special and unique. Kits include glue, paint, and high-quality art materials. Thus, making life a lot easier for parents when kids want to create art and have fun.
Create Art is a concept of bringing art and celebrations together. Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road but I do believe that every mistake that we make gives us a chance to grow and learn from. I used to be scared to try new things because I always thought that everything needed to be perfect but then realized that was getting me nowhere Now I believe if we do not try new things, we will never know what is in store for us. It is so important to believe in yourself! The largest hurdle that I was handed to me was when the pandemic hit. I went from a lot of parties to none. I had so many cancellations with obviously good reason but still knew I had to make a major change, For a long time, in the back of my mind I wanted to take my party idea to the next level by packaging the parties in a box and this gave me a push to do so. I believe every day is a learning curve but we have to do the best we can from what is handed to us.

I believe the most important characteristic about a business is to make sure that all your customers are happy. I believe that everyone I work with should be treated how I would like to be treated. I think my business is successful because we try to go above and beyond on all the details hoping to give a client a “wow” factor.
