Meet Allen Trim of Blue Summit Wealth Management in La Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allen Trim.

Allen, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2009, I started at Blue Summit writing white papers and analyzing investment options. I had recently moved back home to San Diego after going to UCLA and working as a litigation consultant in Los Angeles. At the time, I was working full time as a financial analyst but I finished my workday around 3 or 4 pm. In Los Angeles, I was working until 7 or 8 pm and waking up before the sun rose to study for my CPA exams. I found Judy and Blue Summit because I wanted to continue to learn and work hard.

Speaking of working hard, I met Judy through the Triathlon of San Diego club, in addition to work we both liked to challenge ourselves through sport. At the time, I was interested in learning more about Wealth Management and Blue Summit offered a socially conscious way of investing and growing wealth, it was a perfect match.

Since 2009, I worked at both Blue Summit and in the corporate world. I learned a tremendous amount in both environments and in 2018, I moved into the role of Partner at Blue Summit full time. Along the way, I became a Certified Financial Planner and am the firm’s Investment Portfolio Manager. I now split my time between investment research and implementation and working with our clients which I also really enjoy.

Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest challenge for me over the past decade has been balancing my diverse work responsibilities. In the corporate world, I would often travel internationally and be in different time zones across the world while still required to place trades and make sure our Blue Summit clients were taken care of. It was very important to me that I gave maximum effort to both roles and not do two jobs at half speed. My accolades in the corporate world and our business success at Blue Summit proved to me that this was possible, it just required hard work and organization, which is the type of challenge I like.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Blue Summit Wealth Management – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Our company is unique in the Financial Advisory space for a few reasons. First and most prominent is our commitment to Socially Responsible Investing. This is part of our DNA and has been with our firm since inception 25 years ago. At a high level, this means we do not invest in companies that do not align with our values. You would be surprised how many people own a gun, tobacco, or private prison companies in their 401k or other investment accounts without even knowing about it. In the past few years, this investment approach has added another layer called Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investing which looks at these three factors in addition to the financials when deciding if a company is worth investing in. The wider adoption is great and it has taken our space from a niche to the mainstream which is driving positive behavior at some of the world’s largest companies.
What separates us from some of the mainstream adoptions is that we have been doing it for 25 years and it is not part of our marketing approach, it is our culture.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Through business and personal travel, I have been fortunate enough to experience different cultures and cities and their work environments and for many reasons, San Diego is still my favorite. The combination or people, activities, and climate here are unmatched.

Blue Summit has been a part of the San Diego community for 25 years and we plan on working here for a very long time. While we have clients all across the United States and even abroad our local community is very important to us and we are blessed to be able to contribute to our fine city.
