Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Rassp.
Allison, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My health journey started around 2013. I gained 15-20 pounds, my hair was falling out like crazy, I was fatigued (sleeping 16 hour days), I had massive anxiety, depression, brain fog, and just all around did not feel like myself. After telling my hairdresser about my hair falling out, my hairdresser informed me that it might be a good idea to get my thyroid checked. Upon sitting in a conventional doctor’s office, I requested to get my thyroid tested and the response from the doctor was, ” You probably just need anxiety medication, but I will test it just to see.” After the test results came back my doctor called me and informed me I had “sub-clinical hypothyroid.” I immediately went on thyroid medication as I was desperate to start feeling better.
After months of still not feeling well, I started to do my own research and went back to a different doctor and requested a different thyroid medication. After my request this time, the doctor laughed in my face and told me that, “That medication doesn’t work.” Leaving that appointment I felt, helpless, unheard, and dismissed. I knew there had to be a different way. In 2016, I started doing more research and found a local naturopathic doctor locally and booked my first appointment. They ran all my bloodwork and my naturopathic doctor informed me that I had Hashimotos Disease.
In that moment, I realized that my conventional doctors failed to run the proper lab work and therefore had been misdiagnosing me for years! From that moment on, I have worked with a naturopathic doctor in treating the root cause of my Hashimotos Disease. Since my diagnosis, I started blogging about my health journey and discovered that so many other women had experienced the exact situation that I did. I knew I wanted to spread awareness about this and help others along the way.
In 2018, I left my career as an elementary school teacher and started school at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I have since graduated and am now a Certified Holistic Health Coach that helps women with Hashimotos Disease have more energy and feel like themselves again. I currently have reversed 90% of my Hashimotos symptoms through holistic modalities and love empowering other women to do the same!
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. I had many struggles along my journey. Some of my biggest struggles included doctors dismissing my symptoms as “Just needing anxiety medication.” Another struggle was being misdiagnosed for years! I did not find out I had Hashimotos Disease until I went to a naturopathic doctor and had proper lab work ran.
Also, I was so sick at one point that I showed up highly allergic to 87 out of 97 foods on a food allergy test. Another struggle I encountered was losing too much weight. At one point I was about 10 pounds underweight because I could only tolerate about 4 foods. I later found out I had a parasite that is notorious for food allergies. In my previous career, I pushed my body past it’s limits which slowed my healing progress.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
My business is called Hope with Hashimotos. I am a Certified Holistic Health Coach and I specialize in helping women with Hashimotos Disease have more energy and feel like themselves again. My role as a health coach is to provide support with nutrition, detoxification, emotional support, and lifestyle changes). I basically do everything a doctor doesn’t have time for.
I am most proud of helping women empower themselves with the tools and resources to get their health and life back! I am different than others because in my coaching practice I help women look beyond food when it comes to healing. I take a mind-body approach to healing by diving deep into behavior patterns and emotional healing as these are root causes of disease that are often overlooked by the mainstream medical system.
I currently offer a 20-minute discovery call for those interested in working with me to see if we would be a good fit to work together. Currently, I offer 1:1 coaching sessions for clients locally in San Diego and virtually across the world. The sessions offered are a 90-minute coaching session and my three month “Healing with Hashimotos” program. I am currently working on creating an online course which will include all things healing with Hashimotos and I am very excited to launch that in the near future!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the laid-back and friendly culture here in San Diego! Everyone is so nice! I also love the beach (who doesn’t!?) I would say I like the traffic the least here in San Diego.
