Meet Allysa Bassir of The Breakfast Club Kids

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allysa Bassir.

Allysa, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Naturally, at a young age, I had a passion for two things, baking and for helping others. I had a dream of going to Africa. I was young, broke and still in school, but none of that mattered to me. I used my love for baking to fundraise and at 17 traveled to Swaziland, Africa. It’s been an amazing adventure since then. I currently own a vegan pie company Lazy Daisy Pies and a non-profit for impoverished children in northern Ethiopia called The Breakfast Club. When I am in the states, I bake and sell vegan pies at the farmers market as well as coffee shops and then head to Africa every couple months to my 80 beautiful Ethiopian kids!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I run a small business, Lazy Daisy Pies, where I bake 100% vegan pastries and pies. I strive to create an eco-friendly, animal-friendly and people friendly business. I use my pie business to raise awareness and support for my non-profit. The Breakfast Club feeds 80 kids in Ethiopia and will soon support kids in Costa Rica as well!

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
Personally, I believe that in today’s world, each of us, especially artists have a unique responsibility to use our art and passions for good. For example, I use my pie business to raise awareness on issues like climate change by using eco-friendly packaging, animal cruelty by using only vegan ingredients and on world hunger by promoting my non-profit.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I currently sell at farmers and makers markets in southern CA. I set up a booth at the Temecula and Murrieta markets weekly. You can also find my vegan pop tarts, banana bread, and donuts at The Press Espresso in Temecula and Murrieta. I plan on expanding to San Diego cities in the near future!

If you want more than pie, I lead volunteer trips to Ethiopia where you can hang out with The Breakfast Club Kids! Check out www.breakfastclubkids.com to learn more about trips and how you can donate. $15 feeds a child for a month!
