Today we’d like to introduce you to Alvaro Jacobo.
Alvaro, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I go by A.J, Initials for Alvaro Jacobo. I was raised in San Diego and been here my whole life. I started writing raps when I was 12 and grew up a huge San Diego sports fan. I started writing raps for the San Diego Chargers and every season opener I would record myself on video performing these raps and would upload them to Facebook and Instagram to get fellow Charger fans hyped up. I did the same thing for the Padres, Aztecs, and Gulls when their seasons rolled around. Scott Kaplan from the Mighty 1090 saw one of my videos and invited on air to rap live. I no longer support the former team that moved up North because here in San Diego, we have No Love For a Sellout.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have not felt any struggles or pressure along the way because I’m not trying to blow up. I have a passion for my city, and I like to represent San Diego and the few sports teams that we have left. If we don’t represent our teams, who else will?

After my appearance on the Mighty 1090, I recorded a song for the Scott Kaplan Solo Podcast that he uses as his intro for his weekly episode. I think it’s pretty cool to be heard right before he interviews legends like Landon Donovan, Trevor Hoffman, and Coach Steve Fisher.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Life is what we make of it… Whether it’s business, music, or an unexpected circumstance. We have to have a positive outlook and a little bit of faith.
