Meet Alyssa Edmond of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Edmond

Hi Alyssa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The Tin Scoop Cafe is a European-style, grab-and-go cafe located in the heart of the Marina District in Downtown San Diego, connected to Kettner and G Tabacaria. We opened in May of 2024, so we are still very new! We started because we wanted to do something exciting and different with the extra space that was available in the smoke shop (Kettner and G Tabacaria). As the manager of the cafe, I was offered the unique opportunity to run, design, and create the menu for the cafe a little over a year ago! It’s my first time doing anything like this, so it has been amazing to watch it grow and evolve as the months have gone on. The community has taken really well to it!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, as with any business it’s difficult to get out there in the beginning. However, we have had a lot of great support from our local regulars and customers from all over the world!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the manager of The Tin Scoop Cafe. I love to cook and create so making the food and drink menu was one of the most exciting parts about the job! I’m proud of how far we’ve come and how much we have grown over this last 9 months. I have so much gratitude for my team who are all incredible and have worked so hard to make The Tin Scoop an inviting environment! What sets us apart from the others is our offerings as well as our vibe. Since it’s a small space, we tend to connect with our customers more easily, and the charming and unique decor also helps!

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like best about San Diego is all the friendly people I meet on a day to day basis. The weather also helps! What I like least, which I’m sure many people can relate, is how expensive it is to live here.

Pricing:

  • Coffee is between $3.50-$7.20
  • Toasts and sandwiches between $9-$14.50
  • Pastries range from $4-$7
  • Ice cream and desserts are from $5.75-$9
