Meet Alyssa Salcido of San Diego, California

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Salcido.

Alyssa Salcido

Hi Alyssa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Animal Promise expanding in October 2022 and World Eco Organization starting in January 2023. Began with Tubs & Combs in May 2019, due to the neglect we saw with dogs and cats who were severely covered in ticks and fleas all around their body beyond their ears and between their toes.

It was then that Tubs and Combs came to mind our Wellness Home Animal Retreat to help treat the animals coat, hygiene, injuries and illnesses, which would be grounded and mobile.

Sharing having a soft spot for wildlife, over the time since 2019, it had soon been discovered that there are more issues at hand than we expected, showing as time went on 30 to 75 to then 100 and now over 200+ animal and ecosystem have come to focus.

Ranging from Adoptions, Animal Testing, Short-Term Plastics, Pollution, Bleached Coral, Endangered Animals and Many More.

Therefore, our team is now pairing with Signal Broadcast Network to announce 52+ focuses per year, providing a 45-minute segment each week to animal(s) facing vulnerability to critically endangerment which we have found there are over 40,000 species.

Supporting wildlife wherever we can, we also have events to help mobilize paralyzed and or amputated animals, celebrate and educate on fruits and vegetables, build forever homes and families and many more.

Where welcoming SD Voyager and its readers, we are now we are recognizing :

Pairing with San Diego Humane Society for over 2 years : San Diego Humane Society’s scope of social responsibility goes beyond adopting animals. We offer programs that strengthen the human-animal bond, prevent cruelty and neglect, provide medical care, educate the community and serve as a safety net for all pet families. Serving San Diego County since 1880, San Diego Humane Society has campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego.

Where currently they have 1861 pets in our care. 650 of them are available for adoption. Ready to find a new home and share in this article we are spotlighting Nemo, Miracle and Shyla.

1st – Nemo (Animal ID 953220):

7 Weeks
Domestic Shorthair Cat
Male
Buff Tabby Color

Nemo came to San Diego Humane Society as a stray. He was found in Otay Mesa on May 25, 2025. Where Nemo was noted to have some impairment of his front legs, walking almost crouched on his carpi and antebrachia (wrists and forearms). But SDHS’ medical team provided this tiny kitten with a splint to help with this congenital defect that is affecting his wrists. Sharing, Nemo also has possible vision impairment, attributed as a congenital defect and his delayed development. However, both conditions are treatable and manageable, and we believe he has a very good prognosis for a good quality of life and he will likely be available for adoption in a couple of weeks.

When he is available, you can find him on http://sdhumane.org/adopt.

2nd – Miracle (Animal ID 944141):

Age: 2 Years, 7 Months, 2 Weeks
Boxer/Terrier Breed Dog
Male
Primary Color : Red and Secondary Color : White
Weight: 50lbs
Neutered

He is available for adoption!

Finding Forever Homes Meet Miracle – A true survivor with a heart of gold. True to his name, Miracle has overcome incredible odds. When he first came into our care, he was underweight, frail, and likely recovering from distemper. With time, expert medical care, and plenty of love, he slowly regained his strength – and along with it, his joyful spark. Miracle carries a few gentle reminders of his past: a sweet little head bob and a tongue that tends to peek out of his mouth. But these quirks only add to his irresistible charm. Thanks to the love and care of his foster family, Miracle has blossomed into a playful, affectionate dog who’s full of personality. He adores people, gets along well with other dogs, and even counts two pigs, some guinea fowl, and a peacock among his unlikely group of animal friends! A bit of a celebrity, Miracle has also been featured on NBC 7’s Pet of the Week – and now, he’s ready for his next big moment: finding a forever home. Where because of Miracle’s unique medical history, we’re seeking a special adopter to help him continue his amazing journey.

Miracle came to San Diego Humane Society as a stray on March 7, 2025. Very weak, emaciated, tick/flea infestation, dermatitis, with multiple fractured teeth, severe dental disease and a neurological condition likely a result of distemper, which he survived. He has received a lot of care from us, including two dental appointments, removing all but two of his teeth. We have also treated all of his conditions with antibiotics, medicated baths and a surgery to repair his mouth and removed a benign mass, where he is doing great now!

If you’re interested in giving Miracle the loving home he deserves, please email aasaro@sdhumane.org with a brief introduction to your household. Connecting, we’d love to help ensure the best match for this extraordinary pup.

3rd – Shyla (Animal ID 954967):

Shyla is a 3-month old French Bulldog surrendered to San Diego Humane Society’s CARE program due to a broken elbow. In her owner’s care, Shyla managed to open the car door, fall out and break her elbow. They could not afford surgery, so San Diego Humane Society took the dog into our care, performed the surgery and returned Shyla to her owners on June 12, 2025. Where providing help to the SDHS’ CARE program this is only possible thanks to the generous support from our donors who connected on http://sdhumane.org/donate.

Excited to share this information, we will also have more to come, so always reach out and let’s see how we can support wildlife conservation and higher education, as we are here to help any way we can.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our road to looking at animals and the ecosystem, came at random, first and foremost purely wanting to help where we could, making it a goal to listen and connect, finding paths that presenting themselves naturally.

Opening to this day, that we were aware of some these focuses individually acknowledging different issues and solutions but had no idea that we there were so many topics collectively as in 200+.

But for struggles we have had, I would say, have been … ( time ) and or … ( funding ).

Time : with there being so many active issues and or solutions, we to this day, are still balancing the time to bring awareness to all that in which we have discovered.

Stating, just looking at endangered animals, currently there are over 40,000 species, and if we were to look at one species weekly, this would be 770 years to address all of them, that is also if no additional ones were added.

However, even outside of endangered animals, there are still many other countless topics that have been brought to our attention, that we need to dedicate time, too or bring on more people to help with the amount / weight of issues or solutions, to deliver them to the public quicker.

Whereas, this is where funding can help us, as we juggle to keep the lights on for all of them.

However, we do our best to emphasize and value all scale sizes of currency from pennies and coins. Recognizing the power of one to scale 43.8 trillion dollars worldwide for public interest and public concern with The Penny Scale currently at 1500 focuses, where some in which have to do with animals and the ecosystem or affect them and or society in one way or another.

To also very specific invoices to get the job done and or moving in awareness, prevention or the answer.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The Founder of Animal Promise, but mostly just living on this planet, I’m simply just trying to help where I can, whether that is as non-profit for education and survival or ways of collaborating on for-profits to generate funding to animals and the environment say via collaborative product sales and or services.

But I love that somehow we have been able to keep going since 2019 for animals and since 2014 for higher education.
