Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Duff.
Hi Amanda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my career in accounting and quickly realized that while I enjoyed the numbers, what really excited me was helping people and teams work better together. That led me into HR, where I could combine my analytical skills with my passion for supporting people in meaningful ways. Over the years I’ve worked through mergers, built HR systems from scratch, and supported leaders in professional services and nonprofit organizations. Along the way, I discovered that I love helping individuals clarify their priorities, navigate career decisions, and step into leadership with confidence. Now I run my own coaching and consulting business, helping leaders and small businesses create practical, actionable solutions that improve both their results and their work lives.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. The switch from accounting to HR was a leap of faith. The salary was initially lower, the career path was uncertain, but the work was something I loved, so I had to trust myself.
Eventually, the HR position I took after leaving accounting evolved into the role of Director of People Operations at a local CPA firm, which felt like the perfect blend of my skills and passions. Then the firm was sold and my role was dissolved, a tough and unexpected setback. Along the way, there were other moments that pushed me out of my comfort zone, like navigating additional mergers and leading teams through change, as well as balancing career ambitions with personal priorities, especially as a parent to two young girls.
Each challenge taught me important lessons about resilience, clarity, and focusing on what truly matters. Those experiences also shape how I coach and support others, because I know firsthand how tricky it can be to navigate transitions while staying true to yourself.
We’ve been impressed with Now What HR, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I run a boutique coaching and consulting business that helps leaders and small businesses create practical, actionable solutions that improve both results and work life. I specialize in career and leadership coaching for individuals and HR consulting for organizations, particularly in professional services and nonprofit sectors. What sets me apart is my combination of hands-on business experience and HR expertise. I’ve navigated mergers, built HR systems from scratch, and with my accounting background I am able to make the connection between people operations and business results. That unique background has been so important to understanding both the people side and the business side of any challenge.
I’m proud of the way my brand blends strategy with human connection. I help people gain clarity, make intentional career and business decisions, and lead with confidence while staying true to themselves. I want readers to know that my work isn’t about generic advice, it’s about actionable steps that actually make life and work better. Whether it’s coaching an individual through a career transition or helping a business optimize HR processes, my goal is to make meaningful, lasting impact.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as creating a life and career that align with your values and priorities while making a positive impact on the people and organizations around you. For me, it’s not just about hitting metrics or achieving titles, it’s about feeling fulfilled, maintaining balance, and knowing that the work I do matters. Success is being able to help others grow and thrive while also staying true to yourself and what’s most important in your own life.
