Meet Amie Pederson of Moms Making Money in Virtual, North East San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amie Pederson.

Amie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In my corporate career, I worked as a business mentor in powerline construction. After having my second son, I became a “Stay at home Mom.” During this time, I felt myself in a bit of an identity crisis. I no longer talked to other grown-ups nearly all day, I was exhausted physically and mentally (like literally had adreanal fatigue and was sleep deprived).

Not too long into the first year, I abruptly realized that I was not meant to be only a Momma to these sweet boys. I knew I was meant to make more of an impact and share my gifts and knowledge of business and empowerment with others. Turns out, there are a lot of mommas out there who wish they were able to do more and truly desire to do something impactful outside of raising children.

I also learned that being a SAHM to two tiny children is hands down the hardest job ever, and I give full praise for all the mommas out there who are kicking butt at it. I just personally wasn’t built that way. I love every moment with my kids, and we do have the blessing of spending a lot of time together. However, I did feel like I had lost all of myself, the Amie I was before kids. I know in my soul I was meant for more than wiping boogers and folding laundry.

From there, with the guidance of a mentor, I was able to launch my mentorship business and grow it into the Moms Making Money brand and podcast. This has given me the opportunity to have that connection with other women that I was truly craving, as well as spend quality time with my children and husband.

I wanted to show my sons that a hard-working woman is not only acceptable but teaches them the beauty in having a passionate, hardworking woman in their lives. I didn’t want them to only see me as the booger wiper and housekeeper. Part of the reason for this, I want them to have broadened horizons for their own partners one day and not have any expectation that they should simply fit into the societal norms of “traditional gender rolls.”

They now see me hosting retreats and VIP weekends, speaking on stages, hosting a popular top podcast, and fulfilling the creative business side of my soul (they already know they fill up the other half).

This journey has taught me that there really are no limits to what you can do as long as you believe it’s possible. I have made so many incredible connections with other amazing women in the last three years that have become lifelong, soul-level connections and friendships that I am beyond grateful for. I have learned a lot of valuable (and sometimes hard) lessons about myself and personal growth. Above all, I have learned to find my voice and not be afraid to take a stand for what I believe in, to lead with my truth and integrity as well as how to establish necessary boundaries and values.

My content, podcast, and courses have now reached an international audience of over 10,000 which I never imagined possible at first, now I can see that this is just the beginning. Embracing our inner magic and knowledge, learning how to grow as an individual and a community has been one of the most enlightening experiences of my entire life.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, and anyone who says being a business owner or entrepreneur is easy, is lying. There are times when you are riddled with self-doubt and fear. I found this to be true for me when I was just starting out. I wasn’t sure if it would all work, I wasn’t sure if I would find the success I was seeking. I was afraid of the opinions of my own existing community of friends and family. I often asked myself “What if she thinks this or that?” It wasn’t until I was truly able to say and mean it, “So what if she thinks that.”

I remember a family member telling me when I decided to leave my corporate career that they couldn’t actually believe I was leaving such a good job and income. To be honest, I couldn’t believe it either at first, and I was a bit nervous. I then had other family members try to mom shame me for wanting “more,” for wanting to have a business and be home with my kids. I was shamed for putting my children into a private Montessori school.

I finally had to just stop caring and stop listening to everyone else’s opinions and do what was best for me and my family. I was beyond blessed to have an unconditionally supportive husband, who still is my biggest supporter and cheerleader. I have a couple besties who help me see the logical side of things including the decision to give myself permission to have a few hours alone for myself and business each week- without the guilt. This in itself, made me a more patient and overall better human and mother.

Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
The Moms Making Money brand had grown in areas that I never even imagined when I first got started. I first thought I would only do group coaching and teach courses. I quickly found myself working with amazing private clients, one of which who has recently become a published author. I very quickly added in the Moms Making Money Show, VIP weekends and retreats, public speaking and media, and now I have added in my passion for essential oils which also allows other women (and men) who want to start up with a quality product and to receive my support as their free mentor in their oil business.

Through this all I am most known for being the Mom who is out there doing all the things and supporting and uplifting other moms who have felt their own shame or identity crises. I am probably equally known for the entire Moms Making Money brand and show, as well as my passion and knowledge in essential oils.

Something that sets me apart from others is that I am a total nerd, and I am completely relatable. I say the F word. I live on a small urban farm with horses and dogs and pigs and goats. And one of the best compliments I ever got was that people feel like I am the girl next door in my bare feet and flannel shirts. I don’t try to portray things that aren’t… I don’t eat dinner in my ball gown under the Eifel tower every night with my flute of champaign and I actually don’t desire for that to be part of my brand. Yes, I do enjoy dressing up and looking nice and I am excited to do that from time to time but overall, I really keep it real.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Honestly yes, I see that coaching, in general, is shifting. Consumers want to know that the people they hire as their mentor or coach know what they are talking about and are legit. They are starting to do more research and take their time getting to “know, like and trust” potential mentors before just saying yes. I mean who can blame them.

I forecast that some shifts will include people falling off who aren’t really experienced in their claimed areas of expertise. I see others taking their businesses very seriously and really showing up and serving their clients being the ones who not only stand out but also sustain. I see consumers of both products and services demanding more transparency in every aspect of the business.

I see online businesses and virtual workspaces being a regular part of our culture even more so than they are now. I also see because of this that there are more people than ever wanting to come together in-person to have retreats, events and getaways with their new friends and peers. With social media being the leader in how most of us “stay in touch” the craving for human connection and sitting across the table from someone is something we are missing and desiring at a soul level.
