Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Anderson.
Andrea, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
VACA Arte y Accesorios started around 2016 in Torreón, Coahuila, where I was born, I began sewing cosmetic bags and cotton keychains; as a plastic artist I decided to take advantage of it and start selling small illustrations that I made by hand and then digitize them, now I have stickers, mugs, T-shirts, bookmarks, wallpapers, handmade wooden earrings and also elaboration of murals. My main source of inspiration are the landscapes, the fauna around me, and of course… my mood.
When I was in Torreón I loved to attend cultural events like the “Mercado del Artista¨, some people came to look for me because of the products that I advertised on my social networks, it was very excited. Now I ship to all of Mexico and the United States.
I have a degree in foreign trade and customs and I´m also a plastic artist.
“Being open to learning is doing things with passion¨
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Sometimes it was difficult to keep my business afloat due to lack of budget, so that´s how new products are born, the new ideas taking advantage of my skills and the motivation of my family helped me so much. The key is to have self-confidence and risk trying new things.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I like traditional art techniques, so I usually work with oil paintings, drawing in graphite, pastels, and charcoal. I try to attend the human figure workshops in Tijuana, they are pretty good.
The reason for the name of my business is simply because of my love for cows, so my partners usually call me “vaquita” (diminutive of cow). I´m really proud of this project because it has allowed me to meet many beautiful people and the fact that my products are with people from another culture such as the United States
I have adopted the minimalist designs for the illustrations I make, a little more marketable, I think that´s what sets me apart from others, they are unique because the watercolour stains behind each drawing and I continue translating them into everyday items in order to harmonize the environment, actually, my favourite products are the mugs and the T-shirts because I like to combine my outfits with my coffee time.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
So far, I have been lucky enough to meet very talented people who have taught me many useful things for my business, both in art and in business. Recently I was thinking that I was also lucky of being born in Mexico because the cultural heritage and beautiful traditions that inspires me, I really like to share my work to other people a different cultures. Soon I hope to visit North America to admire its cultural heritage and its landscapes.
