Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Carlin.
Hi Andrea, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved hosting and leading events. When my kids were in preschool and elementary school, I naturally found myself organizing celebrations from classroom parties, fun run and school Galas. As my friends and family saw how much I enjoyed creating special moments, they started asking me to help with their events. Birthday parties, baby showers, and small gatherings. Each event gave me the chance to experiment creatively, and see the joy that thoughtful planning could bring.
Over time, what started as helping friends grew into something bigger. I realized that this wasn’t just a hobby, it was a passion I could turn into a career. That’s when I launched Heart and Sol Events, a San Diego–based wedding planning and coordination company. Today, I get to combine my love for creativity, attention to detail, and connecting with people to make every couple’s wedding day feel effortless and unforgettable.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any journey worth taking, it hasn’t always been smooth. Starting out, one of the biggest challenges was learning how to turn my passion for hosting and helping friends into a full-fledged business. There was a lot to figure out. From managing logistics and timelines, to understanding contracts, budgets, venue, personalities, and building a client base and reputation from scratch.
Another challenge has been finding the balance between work and family, especially while growing my business in San Diego. Weddings are high-pressure, detail-heavy events, and ensuring that every couple feels supported while also caring for my own family has been a learning process.
But each challenge has taught me something valuable. They’ve strengthened my problem-solving skills, deepened my empathy, and reinforced why I love this work. Creating meaningful, unforgettable experiences for my clients, all while embracing those important connections has been so rewarding. Looking back, the struggles were just part of the path that allowed me to grow into the planner I am today. I wouldn’t trade it for anything!
As you know, we’re big fans of Heart and Sol Events . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Heart and Sol Events is a San Diego–based wedding planning and coordination company. I help couples navigate the wedding planning process with support, trust, guidance, structure, and a fun loving attitude. Connecting with my couples to create a friendship along the way and striving to make sure their vision comes to life so they can fully enjoy the journey and be a guest at their own wedding.
What sets me apart is not just my organization and attention to detail, but also my outgoing personality and natural leadership. I’m a go-getter who thrives on taking charge, anticipating challenges, and solving problems behind the scenes so couples can feel calm and supported. My ability to connect with people and lead with confidence ensures every event runs smoothly while still reflecting the couple’s unique story.
I’m most proud of the peace of mind and joy I bring to my clients on wedding day! From connecting with vendors, running a smooth and seamless timeline, to making the bridal party laugh, it all comes together each time in its own unique and professionally organized way. Every wedding is an opportunity to combine creativity, thoughtful planning, and personal connection. For me, knowing that couples feel fully supported and stress-free is the most rewarding part of what I do, especially on one of the most important days of their lives.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
A few books that come to mind that I have found helpful and enjoyable to read alongside building my wedding planning business are:
Dare to Lead: Brave Work. Tough Conversations. Whole Hearts. by Brené Brown. This book really helped me grow into my natural leadership and business owner role. Giving me the courage to take charge and guide my clients with authenticity
The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters by Priya Parker. I found this book to be really helpful to guide me on creating meaningful gatherings and experiences for my clients.
A podcast that I enjoy listening to is called: Event Planner Confessions. Mostly candid stories and behind the scenes of event planning, which has made me feel more widely connected to this community outside of my own personal stories and network.
