Meet Andy Farra of Astray Photography in Pacific Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Farra.

Andy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After numerous road trips to surrounding states, I fell in love with documenting my travels through photos. I had a few friends reach out asking me to take photos for their weddings and thought this is something I should consider. While attending San Diego State I interned with The Daily Aztec taking photos of concerts and events on campus, at the same time my fiancé (currently my wife) was working for a photo studio downtown. With my wife working at a wedding studio she learned the ins and outs of running a successful photography business, about four years ago we decided to branch out on our own and have been very blessed to capture weddings for countless amazing couples.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like anything worth while, it takes time. Thankfully we have been blessed with amazing couples that have made our job that much more fun along the way. Our biggest challenges are upon us as we try and grow our business to the next level at the moment.

Tell us about your company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
I am responsible for our marketing which encompasses blogging, SEO and running our social media accounts. Depending on our schedule for particular weekends I am either the main photographer or videographer on a couples wedding day. We added video to our company about a year and a half ago and I have loved putting together the films and diving into the editing process. Having another creative outlet to focus on is something I enjoy and brings another dimension to our brand.

We specialize in weddings and engagements and love being able to be a part of one of the most important days in a person’s life. Our style is relaxed in how we shoot, we like working with people that have the same down to earth vibe as both of us and capturing the emotions of the day as they come. Each couple is so incredibly different, and we approach each wedding day differently depending on the couple we are shooting. From a business standpoint, we are incredibly stoked to have surpassed our goals the past couple years allowing us to expand and take on more work and have talented artists join along side both Brittney and me as a part of our team.

As of lately we have started working with a few lifestyle brands as well as non-profit organizations and look forward to growing in a different niche of photo and video.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
With building a solid presence locally in Southern California it has been amazing to shoot at so many incredible venues and network with professionals in the wedding industry. We plan to continue working here in San Diego/Temecula and have our team help with local weddings while Brittney and I are able to shoot in more remote locations. We have our first series of international weddings coming up next year and extremely excited to shoot a few upcoming weddings in Ireland. We have a few other weddings scheduled in Hawaii and New York that we are very excited about, and love being able to create new photos and bring ideas to life in new places.
