Meet Anna Cloutier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Cloutier.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Throughout my life I’ve always seen myself as a creative, but finding the right outlet was a journey. In my earlier twenties, I’d become intrigued by the art of photography, in a way that moved something within me. So I bought a camera and started snapping a few photos here and there and teaching myself the basics. I also went through a pretty dark season and photography brought me a lot of healing. I used it as a way to capture both the light in this world and the darkness. It wasn’t until I visited Skid Row in Los Angeles a few years ago that I realized my true potential and what I could really capture through my lens and the world around me. Street Photography really opened my eyes and my lens to something bigger than I had originally thought. It was raw and real, and I loved that. Photography, to me, is a connection to the life happening around me; a means of capturing my vision and sharing it with (essentially) to the world. I made the decision about a year and a half ago to make photography my main focal point, and I haven’t looked back since.

Please tell us about your art.
My art is my perspective. It’s an extension of myself to others and the beauty that surrounds us everyday. My intent is to capture essence, intimacy, rawness, and spirit. What you may see as ordinary, I may see as beauty. It’s about connection. A connection between the creator and the created and I believe it is deeper than what meets the human eye. And that is my hope; that my photographs will move people to think deeper, to feel deeper, to broaden their perspective, and to see beauty in others, in the mess, in the mundane, and in life altogether.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
I know every artist is different but for me what has helped in the past is being around other creatives and looking for social environments/events that not only help me grow as a person but in my creativity as well.
