Today we’d like to introduce you to Arantza Vázquez.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My passion for music started at a very young age. I was lucky to grow up surrounded by pianos so I would always listen to it and play with my dad. When I was about 5, my grandma introduced me to singing, and I got obsessed with it haha. It became a real part of me since then. Around 7 I started writing my own little songs but I would never show them to anyone, and I would only sing for my family. It was until I was 11 that I saw the opportunity to perform at a talent show in my school and I did a cover accompanying myself on the piano. I’ve been publicly performing ever since. I got very involved with musical theatre since middle school too.
My first encounter with Berklee College of Music was in the summer of 2011 when I attended the 5-week program. It was then when I knew I wanted to study music and dedicate my life to it. I auditioned and got a full ride for a second summer program. Then in 2012 I auditioned again and earned a scholarship to go to college there. My life changed completely, and it was then when I felt like everything was in the right place. For those five years that I lived in Boston, I was able to perform in the biggest productions of the school. In places like the Berklee Performance Center, Symphony Hall, and Agganis Arena.
I graduated on May ’18 from both Performance and Songwriting majors and decided to move to L.A. on mid-September because I felt it was the best fit for me. Best decision ever. I love it! I’ve been writing new music, collaborating with people and working on my debut EP. Also, I’ve been performing my music around in several places like The Mint, The Viper Room and more.
Please tell us about your art.
I’m a singer-songwriter, producer, arranger, and actress. I love to sing in many different styles and other languages, but my main genres are Soul, R&B and Funk. I love producing my songs and arrange them because I can hear so many ideas in my head and being able to record them down and listen to them out loud excites me the most. I also love collaborating with other producers/songwriters. It’s a big part of what I do because being able to connect with someone on a different level and create something together is the most powerful and beautiful thing to me.
Songwriting has always been very therapeutic for me. I truly believe that we can all heal the world and make it a better place throughout music. That’s why I have the purpose to share my gift and reach out people from all around the world throughout my music to deliver a message of love, peace, and hope. I come from an authentic place, and I want to share my stories with the world so they can relate and feel as good as I feel every time I sing them. I work very hard and give everything to my songs and performances so that people have a great time and enjoy a good show. My goal is to motivate and inspire self-growth not only on women but to all people equally so they can find and perceive their own happiness.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
I want to say to all the artists out there that you should never give up on your art. If it’s really your biggest passion, you should never stop doing it because it’s a very special and important part of you. Embrace it and use it to make a difference. There’s enough shit in this world, so I invite you to contribute with an authentic message. Don’t try to be or sound like somebody, be yourself! That’s what’ll make you stand out. If I could talk to my younger self right now, I’ll say live in the now, enjoy the present and make the most out of it because it’s all you have. Past doesn’t exist anymore, and the future is an illusion. So don’t suffer, forgive and let go and just learn from your mistakes. Work on yourself starting now so that you’ll be ready for what is coming next.
