Today we’d like to introduce you to Arman Momdzhyan.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Arman. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
La Jolla United WPC was founded in the Fall of 2018 after rebranding and restructuring club goals, philosophy, and overall training environment from formally known club “La Jolla.” We are dedicated on the vision of being an athlete-centered program, developing athletes’ skills, tactics, conditioning and knowledge of the game, regardless of the athlete’s ability level. There is always more to gain, whether new to the sport or preparing for collegiate athletics. The sport of water polo can push an athlete to their limits. Ultimately, our mission is to provide a positive, fun, and competitive environment for each athlete. We will focus on individual character and discipline, as well as working together as a team to maximize team and player potential. La Jolla United WPC is constantly recruiting competitive athletes throughout San Diego County and beyond, interested in upping their game to the next level! La Jolla United WPC offers competitive training opportunities for Age Group, Junior levels and Senior Academy teams. Our focus is to provide our members with a balanced and healthy water polo experience. Our 2 pillars: Academics and Character.
ACADEMICS: Good students make better water polo players. Success in the classroom (and in the pool) provide more future choices. Strong study habits create discipline in the classroom as well as in the pool.
CHARACTER: Character matters. Through youth team sports, athletes must learn how to win with class as well as lose with dignity. Sometimes doing your best, trying your hardest, may not always be good enough. Losing a game doesn’t define you. How you respond will define you!
La Jolla United WPC is unaffiliated with any high school or high school program.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been extremely rewarding for our club coaches and administrative staff. We have seen a lot of support from our local La Jolla community, but have also branched out of our immediate area and have seen immediate growth of our club and sport of water polo. Our club is currently represented by 13 High schools from all around the Greater San Diego region and have youth athletes from Poway, Coronado, Rancho Bernardo, Carmel Valley, North County and more.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
As both the coach for our 16u High School group and club technical director, I would have to say the proudest moment thus far has been our 2019 run at both U.S Club championships and Junior Olympics. Our group battled through a lot of adversity and were the underdogs in a handful of head-to-head matchups and prevailed with a 5th place finish at U.S Club championships (highest placing in history) and 2nd place in the Gold Division at the 2019 Junior Olympics.
