Meet Armon Harvey of Southeast San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Armon Harvey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up my family instilled in us at a very young age that its better to give than receive. I remember helping families in the neighborhood with cutting grass, picking weeds and taking out the trash. My grandmother would take us to volunteer at Sea world during the “march of dimes” races passing out water. Those memories and lessons learn is the reason I started my foundation. It starts with community and family and it will end with the exact same thing.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all and i don’t believe it ever will get smooth as the need of the community will increase and the funding to be able to help them will get more and more harder to obtain. The hardest part if wanting to help everyone but know you can only help a handful. Its extremely hard to get the funding you need to to help tackle the barriers the families you serve face.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My life revolves around community. For my professional job I work for positive coaching alliance where I’m a Director of community impact specializing in youth sports equity. I feel I’m most proud of creating a task force in San Diego that oversees the disparities disinvested communities face when it comes to youth sports. I feel what sets me apart is that I’m a man of action, I don’t spend time planning and talking I find the problem and the root of it and I get right to the solutions.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I like how diverse our city is and being able to learn from all walks of life, what i least like is the fact that many people aren’t from here so its hard to find solid support on the issues that matter to you when it comes to helping people who are in need. I find many peolpe have the mindset that if it doesn’t affect me then its not my problem.
