Meet Ashley Teague

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Teague.

Ashley, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Various friends and family members told me throughout my life, “when you grow up, you should be a lawyer…” I was never quite sure whether to take that as a compliment or a criticism, but either way, I resisted – I didn’t like being told what I should or should not do, and I didn’t entirely understand what lawyers even did on a day-to-day basis. As time went on, and I realized my childhood dreams of becoming an astronaut were not exactly realistic, I began to understand why those around me saw me as a good candidate for lawyering. I love to read, I love to learn, I love to engage in spirited debates, and I have a true and genuine passion and desire to help.

I finally became a lawyer in 2008 after attending the University of San Diego School of Law. At first, I wasn’t sure how I could help or where to direct my energy. But in 2011, I made the terrifying decision to hang my own shingle and specialize in estate planning, trust and probate law. I founded Teague Law, and I haven’t looked back. I love coming to work every day, knowing that I am proactively helping my clients plan for the future and helping them protect themselves and their family. I am passionate about what I do, and I think it shows in the level of personal care and attention I give to each client who comes through my doors.

Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors. Of course, I’ve had obstacles along the way, but I strongly believe that those challenges served only to strengthen me and teach me valuable lessons. The biggest struggles in my journey probably came with learning the ins-and-outs of being a business owner. By the time I opened Teague Law’s doors, I was experienced enough as an attorney, but had no idea what it takes to run a profitable business.

I’m about a decade in, and I’m sure I will only continue to learn new things and overcome challenges. It never ends, but that’s what keeps things interesting!

We’d love to hear more about your practice.
I could not be more proud of Teague Law and what it has become over the years. Teague Law specializes in estate planning, trust and probate law (I received a certification from the State Bar of California confirming such specialization). Estate planning is the process of getting your will or trust in place, and probate or estate administration is the process of helping someone navigate the court system after the death of a loved one. While there are many estate planning/probate law firms to choose from, what sets Teague Law apart is the level of expertise and experience we provide, and the level of personal attention and care given to each client that walks through our doors.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love San Diego! I’ve been here about 15 years and have proudly made America’s Finest City my home.

Loves: The people, the laid-back attitude, the views, the culture, and the food.

Dislikes: The prices 😉 But, in my view, even they are worth it to live here!
