Meet Avery Geary of Well + Intuitive in North County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Avery Geary.

Avery, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My first-hand experience with a healing with food began at a young age with my brother. My brother was diagnosed with Autism at two-years-old. If there was one aspect that was most difficult for him during the first years of his life, it was food intake. His stomach was very sensitive and he could not handle very much food at a time. After months of tests and constant evaluation, my brother was placed on a whole-foods based diet.

I began to see my brother start to feel better as he consumed a diet rich with whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. Though at this time, I may not have entirely grasped the concepts of integrating nutrition and herbal medicine.

Fast forward, I felt my body wanted something different and as a teenager, I began to listen to that guidance. In high school, when I saw videos of the food industry, things began to connect for me. I wanted to know and understand the connection between health and the body, this importance to our spirit, and of course, the mind. I began exploring the nutrition world and changed my diet for the better, incorporating whole-foods and cutting out anything processed. This is where my passion for nutrition and wellness began. Some things began to resonate, one of them being healing with food.

Through observing my brother, I began to see that nutrition has a healing effect on the body. A simple adjustment in diet or lifestyle choices can greatly enhance one’s life.

In 2018, I received a Masters in Nutrition for Wellness from Bastyr University. I truly learned a lot while I was there but left wanting more. In pursuit, it led me to discover the Nutritional Therapy Association. I am currently pursuing my certification to become a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not in the slightest. In watching my brother adjust, I began to question how I can connect what I have seen growing up to those around me.

Growing up in such a different environment, I struggled with taking what resonates with me, while juggling everyday life that was calling to me every time I walked out of my house. Given how my mom embraced spirituality and exposed her kids to things like essential oils, crystals and even various types of energy work, I was almost always, not the first to dive in. Some of it just did not click, and in those moments, I felt as if I was on the outside looking in, wondering where I fit. I was wondering what I truly believed, at the same time learning to think for myself.

In doing so, I pursued a career in the health and wellness field, something no one else in my family had done previously. This led to struggles along the way. I questioned if I was making the right choice and if I could truly help those around me.

Through honoring what my heart was calling me to do, I now see how that was part of my lesson in learning more about myself and my true desires. Obstacles and challenges will always be present, but I’ve learned to view them in a new light.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Well + Intuitive – what should we know?
Well + Intuitive specializes in working with clients with an individualized approach to reconnect them with the power food has on our bodies, to not only feel well but bring them back into balance.

⁣⁣⁣Our bodies have innate wisdom (often operating on a subconscious level) guiding us towards our choices with food and vitality through instinctual choices. However, much of society has grown away from this, becoming disconnected from their food and the environments in which their food grows.

This disconnect has led to food choices that may develop into chronic health symptoms or issues (that often can be resolved by better food choices + lifestyle habits). ⁣As a certified nutritionist, I take pride in sharing reliable nutrition and health education, made simple.

Well and Intuitive focuses on becoming in tune with our bodies, focusing on foods, and lifestyle choices that support health rather than hinder it. Reconnecting with your food, where it’s grown and how you feel is a powerful tool in supporting how you move, rest and live well.

I work with clients 1:1 for individualized consultations, and provide cooking demonstrations for local businesses. I try to stay involved with the community as much as I can, attending local events. I believe what sets me apart from others is the bio-individualized approach I take to wellness.

There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to food choices and exercise routines. What works for you may not work for me. I focus on finding what my client truly needs, for them, without judgment or comparison to others. Many strive away from taking such a personalized approach, but I feel it is necessary, as everyone is different.

I help clients turn their daily habits into long-term ones that improve their health, one step at a time. I am on the journey with them, each step of the way!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My biggest cheerleader is my mom. She supported me through each trial and tribulation, never doubting I wouldn’t succeed. She is truly the reason I fell in love with health and wellness.

She was inspired to look outside the box, and search for alternative solutions that were not necessarily “on the map ” after being told multiple times that there was not much she could do for her children, and doors were closed. But her natural optimism did not let her take no for an answer. From her, I learned to never take no for an answer; there is always a solution. You may just have to search for it a little longer.

Well + Intuitive would not be anything without her. Mom, thank you for lighting the fire within me.
