Today we’d like to introduce you to Banyon Bachman, John Skinner Jr., Brandon Sparks.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
One Hot Planet began in February of 2018. The group was sculpted from previous bands we have played in. We took all of our musical backgrounds and put them into one sound with the goal of maintaining a high energy vibe. The very first thing we did as a group was record an album before ever playing a single live show. This really helped us capture our own unique sound and solidify who we are as a band. From our very first performance we knew we had something special because we experienced an audience reaction like we never had before. After our first show we took every opportunity presented to us and let nothing go to waste. Our first big show we did was opening for a touring group from New York City we had looked up to for years called Lucky Chops. Since then we have used every tool possible to continue progressing with hopes of showing the world what our music has to offer.
Has it been a smooth road?
Both John and Banyon have been playing the saxophone for over ten years. We started experimenting with different bands back in 2012. Eventually we met our drummer, Brandon, and played in a group together for three years. That group was more of a traditional brass band that did mainly cover songs with the exception of a few originals. After years of trying to progress with that group we realized that not everyone was on the same page and we decided to disband. Realizing the three of us still shared the same goals, we decided to form a new group that would fulfill our vision of what we wanted to be as a band. From the first session of writing new material, we knew we had something special. Our musical styles meshed so well that we were able to write and record our first EP in one month.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with One Hot Planet – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Our sound takes qualities from a variety of different music genres including Dance, EDM, Rock, Pop, and Metal and combines them into one form that is sure to captivate an audience which is unexpecting of a group of our instrumentation. Our shows demand the full attention of the audience as we express ourselves through our instruments, literally giving them life as we force air through our saxophones to create captivating grooves and banging melodies. We think the biggest thing that sets us apart from other groups is our stage presence and energy. Since we have been playing together, we have come to realize that our music appeals to a surprisingly wide demographic of listeners. We attribute this to our unique style and the fact that we incorporate pieces of so many genres in our music. Our audience ranges from young kids to seasoned musicians and we never know who will show up to one of our shows.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love San Diego because it has such a great music scene. In comparison to other places we have played, San Diego has some of the most supportive listeners, venue owners, and fellow musicians. The music scene is such a tight community down here and we are so grateful to be able to work with so many amazing people. The connections we have made have gotten us to where we are today and continue to help us get one step closer to where we want to be.
