Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Fletcher.
Hi Barbara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Barbara Fletcher has been taking photographs for over 50 years. She is a member of the Professional Photographers of San Diego County; Professional Photographers of California and America; Women in Creative Photography and the Poly Photo Club.
Barbara specializes in fine art, macro, landscape, and portrait photography. For the past several years, she has been a judge at the International Photography Exhibit at the San Diego County Fair. Barbara has won numerous awards including many from the San Diego International Photography Exhibit (prior to becoming a judge), and several local photography clubs. In 2024 Barbara was named Digital Artistry Photographer of the Year by PPSDC. Her art has been published in international magazines and displayed in several local galleries.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I spent 36 years in the field of International Executive Search. My art took a backseat to my family and my career.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
The past few years I have concentrated on photo compositing (blending several images together to tell a story) and photo painting. I use social media to bring my art attention and therefore to sales.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
In 1971 I was gifted an expensive camera from my husband. In an effort to learn all aspects of this camera I enrolled in a photo class through Continuing Education here in San Diego. My instructor was Mac Miller. Mac was an excellent mentor and encouraged me to set up my own darkroom. He was an amazing photographer and a very good teacher. He would critique my work and pushed me to improve. I’ll never forget Mac. Also, my husband has built me a darkroom in all of our homes.
