Meet Barron Henzel of Coronado Playhouse

Today we’d like to introduce you to Barron Henzel.

Barron, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Coronado Playhouse is celebrating our continuous 72nd year of entertaining San Diego. Since 1946, Coronado Playhouse, the oldest, longest-running community theatre in San Diego County, has been dedicated to serving the community and providing top-quality entertainment. Our 100-seat, intimate cabaret-style theatre, with a full-service bar, overlooks beautiful Glorietta Bay and is part of the Coronado Community Center.

Always vibrant, original and entertaining, our productions feature the highest-caliber local talent and production teams available. We offer a vast array of productions, showcases, workshops, special events and educational opportunities, intended for all members of the community.

We are proud to say, since 1946, we are San Diego’s Community Theatre!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Keeping our budgets as low as we do, while maintaining the utmost quality of our programming is our biggest challenge. All the while, we are dedicated to keeping ticket prices accessible.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Coronado Playhouse – what should we know?
Coronado Playhouse is celebrating our 72nd season. We’ve been providing quality theatre in Coronado continually since 1946. We are the longest-running arts organization in Coronado.

We produce high quality productions with the best local talent and production teams available. In addition, we offer showcases, special events, classes and educational opportunities for students and adults to thrive in the local artistic community. We draw upon local creative and technical talent to give Coronado and San Diego residents vibrant, creative and safe training in the theatrical arts.

The Playhouse is an intimate, 100 seat cabaret-style theatre with a full service bar. It provides quality entertainment with a mix of classic and modern comedies, dramas, and mysteries; dazzling musicals; and colorful free Classics.

The Playhouse is self-supporting through box office revenues, season tickets, memberships, donations, grants and the generosity of volunteers. We are proud to offer all of this while making ticket prices accessible to our patrons.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
We are very thankful for our members and season ticket holders for their support as we continue to raise the bar for Coronado and community theatre.

Our theatre is operated under the direction of a Board of Directors, who are elected by the membership.

Performers and stage and technical crew are all dedicated volunteers, without whom we could not provide our community with the quality product we produce.
