Today we’d like to introduce you to Bella Lara.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Bella. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was four, I started taking ballet lessons at the San Diego School of Ballet. I was hooked on the first day and could not wait for my next class. As I got older, ballet became much more serious, dancing six days a week at twelve. I would leave school and get dressed in the car to be on time for ballet class. At twelve, I attended my first summer intensive, my first time away from home and it was an amazing experience. It was that summer I decided I wanted to be a professional dancer. As a dancer, I gave up many social events in exchange for class and rehearsals. The studio became my home and the other dancers, my family. I’m excited to be dancing with San Diego Ballet’s 2019/2020 season!
A few years ago, I noticed social media was an incredible platform for so many and I started Balletcrazie. I started small with my friends and family taking some photos. Then, I started working with Patty Martinez at Canela Photo, I learned so much about being in front of the camera from Patty. Soon, I was an ambassador for multiple dance brands and that has been a wonderful opportunity for me. This year I signed a modeling contract with Hannah Noell Models. Also, I have had the honor to work with some incredibly talented photographers over the past few years. All of this wouldn’t be possible without the power of social media.
I do have a lot of fun with social media and have really enjoyed bringing attention to issues I’m passionate about. I have shared through photos about cancer, DACA, voting, working with Border Angels and Dancers Without Borders. I have had the pleasure to dance for Border Angels at Fundraisers, the work they do is very inspiring and important. I will be dancing a duet in the gala for the Ballet International Training Program this July.
It makes me proud to dance across borders. I’m very inspired by talented and passionate people making a difference.
Has it been a smooth road?
Challenges are great learning experiences! I have worked with many amazing photographers and brands that I’m extremely grateful for! A dancer and a photographer often see different things when looking at an image. Building a good working relationship with a photographer is important. I truly believe that we are an artist working together and we must respect each other. I once had a photographer tell me if we get five good images from a shoot we did well and I couldn’t agree more!
As a dancer, my biggest challenge is staying positive when recovering from an injury.
it’s very important to find a good sports medicine doctor that understands a dancer’s body.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a ballet dancer/model/influencer. I love collaborating with different companies helping promote products via social media. I’m most proud of producing quality work that companies are using to promote their brands and sharing important issues.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In five to ten years, I hope to still be dancing. I recently signed with a modeling agency, I would love to be doing more fashion modeling.
