Today we’d like to introduce you to Belle Morelock
Hi Belle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was a little kid I was obsessed with the idea of extra terrestrials. I would sit and watch the galaxy at night hoping I would be lucky enough to see a ufo fly by, but I only had dust from my own imagination lingering by the stars. I always felt really different from other kids, I was homeschooled, so it always felt like everyone was in on a big joke I had never heard. I found it hard to fit in. Art was my main passion growing up, I would spend hours in my room creating my own world of sculptures and terrifying creatures. I always had an entrepreneurial spirit, inspired by my dad. I started my first successful business when I was 16, selling earrings. I was fascinated with the process and marketing. I started community college at 13, I am now 20 and studying marketing at SCAD. I’ve been supporting myself for a few years now, and found myself caught in the dreary rhythm of endless day jobs. I had the idea for UFOHH when I was looking out at the sky again one night. I remembered being little, and convinced I would experience something extraordinary, if I just looked hard enough. And then I remembered becoming a teenager, and before you know it everyone in the world has an opinion about who you should be. My mantra for UFOHH is “find yourself before they do”, not only to play in with the fun alien theme but to remind you, never to let anyone tell you who you are or who you should be. I believe the beauty in the world comes from our diverse ambitions and ideas. I want my clothes to inspire people to be odd and bold.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My biggest struggle is how expensive it is to survive in San Diego. Candidly, im working three jobs, and tons of people are blind to how hard students are working to not only have a safe home but also to pay these enormous fees for education. Sometimes I need to remind myself my business is worth the time and investment because it makes me, and other people happy. I have big dreams ! And when I am a millionaire I plan on contributing to tons of scholarships. Who knows… maybe I’ll even make it to space 🙂
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
